her,”Tayese said, laughing.
â€œGive him time, girl. He was cool other than that, you said, so just give him some more time or chances. You never know.”
    â€œYeah, yeah.Whatever,”Tayese said back.
â€œWell, I gotta go run into this meeting. I’ll call you later,” Jordan said.
Jordan didn’t have any meeting to run to; she just wanted a quick and simple way to get off the phone so that she could call Jayon. As soon as she hung up, she picked back up and dialedhis number.
    â€œHey, hon,” he answered.
â€œHey, what are you doing?” she asked.
â€œI’m just heading back to the office. I had a meeting.”
    â€œOh, how’d it go?”
    â€œHow’d what go?”
    â€œThe meeting.”
â€œOh, it went well. May have a new client. We’ll see how it goes.”
â€œThat’s good.Well, I wanted to go eat at Sylvia’s tonight.”
    â€œBabe ... we can’t do it tonight.”
    â€œWhy not?” she asked.
â€œBecause I have too much to do. We can go Saturday, though,” he said.
â€œI want to go tonight. Why can’t we just go for an hour or so tonight?”
â€œI just told you that I have a lot to do.”
â€œWhat do you have to do on a Tuesday night?”
â€œI’ll be at the office late; I have a lot of files to close. Then I have to work out after work.”
    â€œFine, Jayon. Forget I asked.”
â€œWhat do you want me to do? I have work to do.”
â€œWell, do your work and call me later.”
Jayon quickly took the opportunity to hang up the phone before a deep conversation ensued.
Jordan went back to her work, trying not to let herself get upset at the conversation she had with Jayon. She rearranged some papers on her desk and put some Post-it Notes on a few documents. She noticed the frustration from her conversation was still lurking, but she continued organizing her desk. Finally, she tried to distract herself by reading a cease and desist letter that she had just received on behalf of one of her clients from MCA Records. She wrote a small note on the side of the letter, and as soon as she was done, she placed the pen down and picked up the phone receiver. She hit redial and waited while the phone rang.
    â€œHello,” Jayon answered.
â€œWhy does it feel like I am the only one in this relationship?”Jordan asked.
â€œI don’t know why you feel like that,” Jayon replied very calmly.
â€œDo you think maybe because you make me feel that way?”
â€œI can’t make you feel that way.”
â€œSee, this is exactly what I’m talking about, your nonchalanceabout everything.”
â€œJordan, I have to work. I’m sorry I can’t just drop everythingso we can go eat together, but that’s not me making you feel like you’re in this relationship alone.”
â€œIf it’s not work, it’s something. I just know it’s very rarely me.Things are changing so drastically between us, and it doesn’t seem to bother you.”
â€œWe are just going through a downtime for a quick second;we will be fine.We both have a lot of work on our plates, and that’s all it is. Our relationship will be just fine.”
Although Jordan was relieved to hear Jayon’s faith in their relationship, for some reason it only felt like words to her.
â€œSo you think that we can just allow this distance between us to grow, and then we will be just fine once our work schedulesslow up?”
â€œYes, we don’t have to be together 24-7 to have a healthy relationship.”
Jordan didn’t like the sound of that, because truth be told she would have no problem being around Jayon every minute of the day. However, she couldn’t admit that. Especially since he was expressing how he wasn’t quite as attached.
â€œWell, I understand that. I just think that we need to make some time for each other. If you don’t have a
