down at the woman who made her feel things with an abandon completely foreign to her.
The climax creeping up on Maddie was one born from pure need. It wasn’t a slow build. It wasn’t the result of a string of sensual movements colliding into an inevitable explosion inside her. It was Alex taking her, claiming her as hers again. It was the physical expression of their new beginning. It was love and it was need and it was heaven.
Maddie panted heavily through the waves crashing into her from everywhere. From Alex’s eyes looking up at her and Alex’s left hand scratching her back and Alex’s right hand filling her with everything she had. Sweat dripped out of Alex’s hair and it was so quintessentially her, muscles rippling under her skin while sweat trickled along, shoulders broad and curls dancing around her face.
“I love you,” she groaned as she crashed down on Alex’s supple body, the orgasm momentarily incapacitating her.
“And I love you,” Alex said. She slid her fingers out of Maddie gently and held her in her arms for long heavenly minutes, maybe hours. Maddie couldn’t be sure. Time seemed to have stopped and frozen them in that moment of perfect unification. It was just them against the rest of the world: predatory exes and overcrowded cities, ruthless bankers and too much work, problematic pasts and scorned lovers. It was just them and it was how it was meant to be.

    ALEX

Alex woke before Maddie and stared at the sleeping form beside her while her stomach rumbled. She’d missed all meals the day before. Then again, that hadn’t even been the most unusual part of the day.
Despite their similarities in looks and certain common personality traits, Maddie slept differently than Rita. She allowed her mouth to drop open slightly and she liked to edge towards the middle of the bed, whereas Rita seemed controlled even in dreams. Even when sleeping she looked as if playing a part in a commercial for Egyptian cotton sheets, her hair tied up neatly and a black silk mask covering her eyes. Towards the end of their affair, she let Alex spoon her, but only for the first ten minutes of the night. Then she shook her off, claiming she was too warm or she couldn’t breathe, depending on how dramatic she felt.
Maddie lay on her back, her straight blond hair splayed all over the pillow, the duvet only covering her body from the waist down. Alex hoisted herself up on one elbow and let a hand drift over Maddie’s chest. Her breasts were bigger than Rita’s. Alex had noticed them the first time she’d met Maddie in body combat class, when she’d made the group do jumping jacks for thirty seconds to raise their heartbeat. The bigger chested women always stood out in moments like that. She smiled at the memory.
Alex hadn’t suffered many hangovers in her life, but yesterday’s had been epic. To wake up without that relentless thud in her temples and that queasy feeling in her stomach seemed like a miracle, but here she was, feeling more than fine.
“Please tell me it’s Sunday.” Maddie opened her eyes and arched her back while stretching out her limbs.
Alex nodded while letting her drifting hand disappear under the covers. She traced two fingers over Maddie’s lower abdomen.
“Does this morning assault on my privates mean we’re back together?” Maddie caught Alex’s fingers in her palm and held her gaze.
“If you’ll still have me now that you know I’m damaged goods.” Alex held her breath.
“As if that was ever up to me.” Maddie pushed Alex’s hand down into her pubic hair. “And anyway, I’ll still want you when your spectacular abs have turned to flab and your hair has gone grey.”
Maddie was right. The choice had been up to Alex and she had chosen.
“How dare you suggest I’ll someday live without a six pack. I might as well be dead.” Alex dipped one finger between Maddie’s legs and wondered if the woman was ever not wet and ready to go when she was in her
