don’t like it, but I understand. She was your wife. We hardly know each other.”
The rest of the night goes smoothly. I even help him get Hunter bathed, and I read him a story until he falls asleep in my arms.  I could get used to this. It’s nice. I know I can’t replace his mom, but I can be good to him, given the chance.
His father takes him from my arms and places him snuggly in his crib.
I follow Mason into the kitchen and offer to help clean up, but he tells me he has a lady who comes over a few times a week to keep up with the house for him. I can tell by the gleam in his eye that he has other plans. I am just not so sure it is a good idea, considering the last time we were romantic.
He cups my face, being gentle. “I do want to see where we can go, but, woman, we have got to go slow.” He senses my hesitancy when he kisses me. “Give me a chance to make it right. I can make it good for you.” I can’t help but give in. Something pulls me to him, and I need him just as much as he needs me.
And God does he make it good. Thirty minutes later, I am sated, lying in his arms, and it was my name he called out when he came deep inside my walls.

    Two months later
I’m finishing up my shift, which was awkward as hell because my ex-husband and his new wife started working today. I haven’t run into them in town, so I thought maybe they changed their minds about coming here, but they didn’t, because poof – they are standing in front of me.
    “Moira,” Sam says quietly.
I give him a chin lift. Hmm, Mason is rubbing off on me.
His new wife elbows him and glares. “Moira, hey, this is weird, trust me, I know, but Sam has groveling to do,” she says, sharply glaring at her husband.
My brows go up, and then I see him, Mason, coming up behind them. “Hey,” I say, a grin lighting up my face.
“Babe,” he says, stepping around them, coming at me. Lifting me slightly, he plants one on me, hard, soft, and with loads of tongue.
When we part, I get worried. I haven’t told him yet about my ex-husband.
I look to Sam, who is looking highly upset and hurt. I look to his wife, and she is grinning huge and looks genuinely happy for me.
“Uh, Mason, this is Sam, my ex-husband, and um, I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name,” I say, wincing in her direction.
She chuckles softly. “It’s okay, dear. It’s Lenora.”
    “Ex-husband?” Mason questions.
I look up at him and whisper, “I’ll explain everything later.”
He nods then holds out his hand to Sam and Lenora for them to shake.
“Well, uh, Moira, we’ll let you get on with the rest of your day. We just wanted to come over and say hi,” Sam says. He looks to the floor and then back up at me, whispering, “I’m happy for you, darling, and I’m still very sorry.”
Mason tenses at his words, and I nod to Sam. His wife gives me a smile and walks around us with Sam to get back to work. Well, that was somewhat strange.
Mason and I walk out to my car, hand in hand, discussing our lunch plans. We decide on Rachel’s Diner. He follows behind me on his bike, although I have to keep watching my rear-view mirror, because with the snow on the ground, I’m worried he’s going to wipe out.
Over lunch, Mason wants to talk about Sam, but I am not in the mood. I’m still in shock over seeing him.  I am not hung up on him or anything; it’s just weird. Mason isn’t happy.
“We’ll talk about this later.” He kisses my cheek, and I hope my reluctance hasn’t pushed him away. He has to go run some errands and pick up Hunter.
I tell Mason I’ll meet him at his house a little later, and end up stopping at the bakery, which is now called Eden’s Place, before going to his place.
“Moira.” My name is called as I’m carrying out a box of donuts. Turning around, I see that it’s Eden.
    “Hi,” I say, smiling.
    “Can we talk?”
I have a feeling this won’t be good, but I nod and follow her to the back room.
    “Have a
