were staring into each other’s eyes; swept her mouth with a light kiss . “Ye pleased me very much, sweet, and I thank ye deeply for the gift ye gave me.” He reached up and stroked her hair. “T’was a wondrous thing and ye shouldnae be ashamed.” Once again, he brushed a gentle kiss on her lips and breathed easily when he saw her start to relax.
At first she was self-conscious when she gazed into his eyes, but at his gentle actions and soft words, she gave him a weak smile. “I feel that I behaved in the most un-ladylike fashion.” Once again, she blushed.
Reclining on the bed, he gave a soft chuckle. “Aye ye were nay ladylike at all. However, I am thinking t’was a fine thing that ye werenae.”
Giggling also, she lay her head on her husband’s chest. “Will you be wanting to do it often.”
The innocent question amused him and caused another burst of laughter. “Aye, sweet, verra often. But for now we must wait until ye are nay so tender. Now go to sleep wife for the day will soon be here.”
So pleased with herself and smiling happily, she cuddled up close to her husband and with a yawn and still with a smile on her lips, fell asleep.
Regretfully, he sighed and fought his burgeoning arousal. Holding his wife close, he wondered if she would feel the same way later this morning as she did now. He sighed again, women were such strange creatures and one never knew just how they would react to any situation. He held her in his embrace a little longer, but finally he moved her out of his arms.
Once he settled her , he left the bed and dressed. Going down to the great hall, he found Devena waiting for him. Reaching her, he stood with his hands clasped behind his back. “’Tis as I said, ye best leave and I will come to see ye in two month’s to make certain there is a babe or nay one.”
Enraged, she stood defiantly before him. It was hard to pretended to look hurt and upset, she forced tears into her eyes as she gaze at him. “Please dinna send me away, Rieph. Ye ken how much I care for ye. I promise I willnae cause ye any trouble.”
She reached out to him , but her hands only found air, she fought down her temper and wrung her hands together. “If my family find out that I’m carrying ye babe and ye have already wed they will throw me out.”
Out of patience and running a hand through his hair, he started becoming irritated; he glanced up and froze when he saw the pale hurt face of his wife. One glance at her ashen distraught expression, he knew that she overheard what he and Devena were discussing. He saw it in the horror that clouded her grey eyes.
A loud curse rolled of his tongue and called to Gabe. “Take her home.” And without another word, he walked away from the pleading, sobbing woman and watched his wife turn and run back up the stairs. Quickly, he followed and reached the door just as she slammed it shut.

                  Chapter Seven
Heart pounding and riddled with guilt, Rieph turned the handle, pushed the door open and found her standing over at the window, her back to him. He stepped inside and softly closed the door, moving across the room, he stood behind her. Gently placing his hands on her shoulders, he felt her flinch from his touch, but he would not remove them. “’Tis sorry I am, my sweet, that ye had to hear such a thing the way that ye did. If ‘tis true I was going to tell ye, but I am verra sure that if she carries a babe it ‘tis nay mine.”
Trista had been standing half way down the steps; she’d actually been feeling very happy and wanted to see her husband. When she heard what he and his lover were discussing, her pleasure died as well as her dreams of a happy future. So disillusioned, it was as if someone just tossed a bucket of cold water over her and she was now fully awake and living a horrendous nightmare. He had given his lover a child and now he
