guess."
“It'll take a while. And for me too. I'm so angry inside. I've never actually wanted to kill anyone before.”
“I really thought you were going to.”
“So did I. Christ. ” He breathes harshly, his chest rising and falling with emotion.
I can see the tension rise in his body, in the way he's now holding himself. And I'm tensing too.
It's a tension that strains between us and crackles in the air. A strange mixture of emotion‪—a tautness, borne of the shared intensity of my assault—of newly forged closeness—and something else, I don't want to examine too much. I'm far too overwrought to do that.
“Do you want me to call the police?” he asks.
“No, I don't know who they are or where they came from.”
“Someone at the party might know,” he points out.
“I really don't want to talk about it,” a wave of panic overwhelms me and tears rush to my eyes.
“I can understand that, I can, but...”
“NO! I can't. NO! And you've punished the two of them, haven't you? Given them both something to remember...”
He breathes in and out heavily.
“Hardly punishment enough, but it's your call. I think you're wrong letting them get off so lightly.”
“They could charge you with assault, Sean.”
“I really don't give a fuck if they do,” he says hotly.
“Well you should, I don't want you to get in trouble over me. You've done more than enough.”
“Look, it's your decision, and you've made your point, but if you change your mind, at any time, You can call on me as a witness.”
“I won't change my mind, I don't want to talk about it.”
“We've all got bad things we don't want to talk about. But sometimes, it's better to let it out. Whenever you feel the need, I'm here.”
I'm overcome with feelings for him, really strong feelings that I can't describe or comprehend.
I finish my tea and put down the mug.
    “Would you like some more?”
    “Yes, please.”
He goes to the kitchen and returns in a couple of minutes with another steaming mug full.
I think I could get addicted to being looked after by Sean.
As he sits down in front of me, his long fingers deftly repairing my dress and sewing the replacement buttons on, I couldn't be more stunned.
He's devastatingly handsome, sublimely sexy, lands a punch like a prize fighter, and what's more he can even sew buttons on.
Holy hell, and oh my God!
What more could a girl ask for?
I know he's a real babe magnet, but I don't see the word player associated with his character. Of course, I could be wrong. I was wrong about Andy. He was kinda lovely too.
Still, he's someone I'd like to get to know better. To find out more about. But I don't see how I can, as I still have Charlotte to consider.
He hands my dress back. “There you go, fully functional.”
I study his repairs in amazement.
“Where d'you learn to sew like this?”
He sits back and rubs his hands through his hair. A smile comes out, like a hot ray of sun.
“I majored in fashion and design, and the practical side of that, being manufacture, is essential knowledge in the industry. It was a good few years back, but I obviously learned something useful from it.”
“You certainly did,” I reply, running my fingers over his neat stitches.
“I'm pleased to be of service,” he says with a grin. “Now, I don't know how you feel about this, but I suggest we head back to the party, so you can say you had a little accident, then I'll get you home. Can you manage ten minutes doing that?”
    “I guess I can.”
“Right... go get that on, birthday girl. There's the bathroom. You might want to fix your face a little, it's kinda smudged. Maxine left some of her stuff in there, if you want to use it. I'm getting changed, upstairs.”
As he heads off through a doorway, I wander into the small corridor and the bathroom on shaky legs. I put my dress on and wash the tightness of my salty tears from my cheeks. Then I examine my face in the mirror, wiping off the smears of
