for you. Ok all done.” She said after another few moments of
silence.
“ Look here missy” he joked “I have had
to withstand cold weather plenty, I bet I could even withstand a
winter weekend in Maine.” He claimed.
“ Oh I would love to see you try, be
sure to bring your long johns and wool socks, I bet you couldn’t
make it 15 minutes outside without running inside to stand in front
of the fireplace.” Abby then broke out into hysterics picturing the
scene.
    “ Alright then, it’s a bet, I’ll see you
this weekend and we’ll see who gets colder first.” Abby’s laugher
stopped short.
“ What?!” she said more like statement
than a question. “You’re coming here this weekend? Don’t even tease
me like that”
“ I’m not teasing, I never pass on a bet
and you bet me.”
“ Jimmy, seriously, that’s not funny, if
you’re kidding please stop.” She was now feeling a little sad and
missing him a bit more since they were talking about actually
seeing each other again.
“ Abby,” he said with as much
seriousness as he could, “I’m not kidding, I want to come and see
you.”
“ YES!” Abby started screaming and
jumping on her bed, scaring the Bejesus out of Holly who was still
sleeping up to that moment, making her fall out of the
bed.
“ What, what, what, what’s the matter?”
Holly asked completely exasperated, pulling herself back onto the
bed.
Abby parents had come running into the room
to see why she was screaming and to see if everything was ok.
“ Jimmy is coming here this weekend,”
Abby said still jumping on her bed. Holly got up and started
jumping with her, echoing her screams.
“ For Pete’s sake Abby.” Her mother said
breathless, “you just about gave your father a coronary. Tell Jimmy
we look forward to meeting him.”
“ Oh my Gosh I almost forgot he was
still on the phone” and she landed down on the bed in a sitting
position, Holly falling on her and both trying to compose
themselves.
“ Jimmy are you still there?” she asked
while pushing the hair out of her face.
“ I am,” he answered “although I now
have this constant ringing in my ear.” He teased her.
“ When are you coming? How long can you
stay? Are you bringing Mikey and Ben with you?” Abby asked
excitedly.
“ I am flying into Knox County Regional
Airport in Owls Head, Saturday morning. I can stay until Monday.
No, the boys aren’t faring to well with the cold so they are gonna
head to LA for a long weekend, so it’s just me, is that ok?” he
asked sounding a bit unsure.
“ It’s more than ok. You can stay here
with us, I am sure my parents’ won’t mind. We have plenty of room
and it will give them a chance to get to know you.” She thought for
a minute, “Unless you don’t want to stay here I don’t want to put
you in an uncomfortable position.” It didn’t dawn on her that he
may not be ready for a whole weekend with her parents.
“ I don’t want to put anyone out, I had
my assistant Karma book a room for me at the Samoset in Rockport.
She said it wasn’t too far from where you live in
Thomaston.”
“ No, it’s not” she said disappointment
in her voice. “The Samoset is nice”
He could tell she wasn’t as happy as she was
two minutes ago and he didn’t like the thought of her being
disappointed in anything having to do with this weekend.
“ I’ll tell you what,” he started, “Once
I get into town and meet your family, we’ll see how it goes. If it
makes more sense to stay with you at your home and your parents
have no objections I can cancel the hotel room, deal?”
This made her smile, “deal” she agreed.
They ended their call with a plan for her to
meet him at the airport and drive him to her house. He was going to
reserve a rental car as well so she didn’t feel the need to drive
him everywhere unnecessarily. Especially if things did not go well
with her parents, he would need transportation to the hotel.
    Abby’s parents agreed with
