the boutique was open, not now.â
âMamma Lou hears what she wants to hear.â
âApparently sheâs not the only one,â she said. His sexy smile had Kenyaâs stomach doing flips.
âI have to go,â she said quietly. âIâm already an hour late. I presume you can handle the twins on your own now,â she said as she went back into the house.
âOf course,â Trey replied.
âJust keep your eye on them and youâll do fine.â She looked around quickly then headed to the dining room to retrieve her purse.
âSo what are we going to do about this evening?â he asked, following too close.
âWhat about this evening?â she asked, turning.
âMamma Lou expects to see us,â he said, moving closer. âTogether.â
Kenya opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out. He was too close and her heart was about to jump out of her chest. Her stomach quivered and her legs were weak.He had found her weakness. He was challenging her and she was losing.
âDonât worry, Iâll make up some excuse,â he said, knowing that heâd gotten to her.
âWhy did you really do it?â
âDo what?â
âKiss me,â she said softly.
âIs that a request?â
Kenyaâs stomach jumped. Every fiber of her being screamed yes as she shook her head no. Trey smiled. He had, of course, expected the question. âYou asked for it.â
âI did not.â She saw victory in his eyes. âYou know what, youâre a real jerk. No, I take that back. Youâre not a jerk. Youâre a spiteful, depraved degenerate,â Kenya said.
Trey smiled. âA bit personal, donât you think. It was only one kiss, unless of courseâ¦â He moved closer.
âDonât even think about it,â she warned feebly as she placed her hand on his chest. The feel of his solid body pressing on her hand made her tingle. An instant recollection of him standing in the doorway shirtless flashed in her mind.
âWell, then by all means, tell me what you really think of me.â
âOh, baby, you donât want to know what I really think of you.â
Trey looked down at her hand still on his chest and smiled broader. âNow youâre just being a tease.â
She quickly removed her hand. âMust you manipulate everybody and every situation?â she asked heatedly as she moved around him toward the front door.
He stepped between her and the door. She held her ground. Their bodies were nearly touching. âFirst of all, character assassinations aside, you donât know me and certainly not the whole story. Mamma Lou has been after me for years, and I have no intention of getting caught by her or anyone else, now or ever.â
âWhat do you mean, after you?â
âTrust me, I know what Iâm doing.â
âTrust you, thatâs a joke.â
âYou mean being that Iâm a degenerate and all,â Trey said softly.
âYes, exactly,â she said, feeling the closeness of his body again.
They stared at each other a few moments. A slow easy smile pulled at Treyâs lips. He focused on her eyes. They were exceptionalâdark, almost black, with specks of golden ice. Then his eyes drifted to her lipsâ¦soft, sweet and pouty, perfect for kissing.
âDonât even try it,â she warned, backing up. Her heart thundered in her chest yet she kept her calm. But she knew if he kissed her, sheâd probably jump him right there on the floor.
âTry what?â he asked innocently.
âKissing me again.â
He leaned in slowly. âI wouldnât dream of it. Although, sweetheart, when or if I decide to try kissing you again, thereâll be no question about you wanting it.â
âPlease, save it for one of your little playthings. As far as Iâm concerned youâre definitely not my type.â
âSweetheart, Iâm
