Stefanos tightens his hold on me, and I break free from his grasp and stand near Roberto.
“Pretty lady, let’s go take a seat and chat.” Roberto offers me his arm, and I take it. When I turn back around, I see my father smiling and Stefanos wearing a scowl.
We take a seat outside around the pool area and grab champagne on our way out.
“So, tell me, Krinos. Are you planning on taking over all your father’s deals when you take over?”
“Just depends what they are, Roberto. If it benefits me and my business then of course I will,” I say and take a sip of my alcohol.
“I like you, Krinos, I do, and I have a lot of respect for your father. He is the only man who scares me and, believe me, a man like me isn’t scared much. I’m willing to make you the same deal I offered your father.” I nod my head in a sign I’m listening and let him continue. “You continue to distribute to me at the lowest price than anyone else, and I will give you all the protection you need; you know I supply all your father’s protection. Actually, I think your own security detail was once one of mine.” I look up at him and glance to Rock, standing at the doorway doing his job, and see him talking to Roberto’s men.
“You are going to have to offer me more than that, Roberto. I like you too, though; I know you can offer more.” He looks at me and smiles.
“You are your father’s daughter; I will supply you and your men all the guns you need.” I knew he had a similar deal with my father, as he is where my father got my gun from. I know he was testing me to see how easy of a pushover I would be, and he was glad I didn’t bow down to his demands. He smiled graciously at me. Roberto calls over one of his sons, and I look at him. He is very attractive and has all the dark features an Italian man is meant to have, except he has a softness in his eyes I can see when he smiles at me. I stand up and introduce myself, and he places a kiss on my cheek.
“You know, you should date my son, Krinos; we could build an empire.” I laugh at him and turn around to see Stefanos death-staring Roberto’s son. Roberto sees it and smiles. “Son, you might want to remove your hand from this young lady before you find a bullet between your eyes.” I take a seat next to Roberto again, and he grabs hold of my hand and talks to me.
“I don’t know what you have done to that man, but he is more dangerous now than ever before. And believe me, he was dangerous,” he says, nodding toward Stefanos. “Why do you think your father put so must trust in him? He is deadly and now he is that much more.”
Roberto lets go of my hand just as Stefanos reaches us; I look up at him and try to remember what my father used to say when he talked about him. I remember him saying his hands are lethal, and I know that, just in a different way, of course. I remember how my father used to brag about him, about how, if he had Stefanos, nothing would get in his way again. I didn’t quite understand back then what he was talking about, but I have seen him kill before, and he does it like it’s natural to him. I realize then I don’t know much about this man who claims me as his.
He sees my brain-working overload and leans down to place a soft kiss to my cheek. I look him in the eyes. “If you want me, I need to know you.”
He nods his head and leads me up to my room past all our guests. As he walks, I watch as people make way for him, and if they see him coming, automatically move out of his way. He has a lot of respect in this room, almost—or close enough to—what my father does.
And I wonder how he got it.

––––––––
I watch as he paces the room then stops and stands in front of me. I’m sitting on my bed, looking up to this beautiful brown-eyed man and watching him. He doesn’t speak straight away, just reaches up and slides his thumb down my cheek and onto my lips. He leans down and lightly brushes his lips over mine then steps
