manhood and strutted to his truck. “Oh how sweet and delectable the revenge is going to be.”

Chapter Seven

Kat walked into her house after dropping Sam off at school. She had been floating on cloud nine ever since her interlude with J.J. in the janitor’s closet last week. Even though she hadn’t seen him, she’d talked to J.J. every day. It amazed her how much they had to talk about. It was as if they were lifelong friends.
Not only did J.J. turn her on in ways she had never experienced before, he stimulated her mind. At times it scared her senseless. The only other person she had so much in common with was Patricia and Kat had known her almost her whole life.
The scent of fresh paint and cut wood permeated the air and filled her soul with peace. Kat took in the lovely shades of yellow on the walls and the rich hardwood floors and hoped all the changes she’d made would allow her to put Gary behind her. She strolled through the house that once felt like a prison and pictured where she would place her grandmother’s antiques.
It had taken her weeks to arrange for the delivery of the priceless items. Kat would reap the benefits of all her hard work when the antiques arrived in a few short hours. Her throat clogged with emotions she had held onto for years.
Kat strolled into the backyard and studied her pool. She’d promised Patricia that she would start living again. Kat took one last glance around the yard and checked her watch. “Oh what the hell.” She stripped off her yoga pants and T-shirt and jumped in.
Cool water washed over her. She glided across the bottom of the pool and her mind emptied. The water always made her feel free. She kicked her way to the surface and filled her lungs with fresh air. For this moment, Kat didn’t have any responsibilities.
No struggling family business to deal with. She didn’t need to think about a son who woke up in the middle of the night, crying over the loss of his father. She didn’t have to agonize over the size of her ass.
A splash from behind Kat made her heart skip a beat. For an instant all her worries flowed back in her mind, but the strong arms that wrapped around her waist had her anxiety disappearing, and the now familiar need lapped up her spine and spread throughout her body.
J.J. nipped at her ear. “Hi.”
“You almost gave me a heart attack.” She wiggled into his solid chest. Today, being with him like this felt right. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to do your yard, but I saw you and decided I needed to cool off first.”
Lust washed over her. “It’s not Tuesday.”
“After the janitor’s closet, I figured I needed to keep you on your toes.” He pressed his lips to her forehead. “Besides, I wanted to see you before you left.”
Kat wiggled around in his arms and kissed him full on the lips. She hoped they could have a redo with a mutually satisfying ending in her almost empty, newly painted house. “I thought you had a full day today.”
His cock hardened and throbbed against her belly. “I did, but I did some rescheduling.”
The feel of his hands moving up her back set her on fire. She smiled at him. “How did you know I would be home?”
He adjusted her so she fit tighter against his chest. “I know that after you drop Sam at school, you take an hour for yourself.”
Kat held on and wrapped her legs around him. It occurred to Kat how the state of her home was perilously close to her state of mind. “You are starting to know me too well.”
“I want to get to know you better.”
Kat couldn’t keep the unease from settling over her good mood. She didn’t want to care about him so much. Their relationship was supposed to be about sex and getting herself back.
J.J.’s arms flexed, making Kat’s whole body tremble. His lips kissed her ear. “What’s the matter?”
Kat shook her head and clung onto him. Too many thoughts collided with emotions to form words.
    “Baby, tell me what’s
