from his hotel, Drake decided to order some good red wine. The food was delicious, and we talked about a lot of things. I learned his parents were divorced, and he had a half-brother on his dad’s side who was the same age as he was, and they had just recently found out about him. He had several bikes, a few friends, and apparently, he was much smarter than I was.
We discussed different bike models and everything else. Aside from my girls, I thought it was impossible to meet someone who could be as good a listener and as easy a person to talk to.
Once we were done, he asked me if I was up for some walking and sightseeing, and of course, I was. This dinner wouldn't run itself off. This brought us to the middle of some street where he claimed they had the best-ever chocolate cake and it was a shame to be in Las Vegas and not try it. The city was beautiful with all those flashing lights, big signs, and happy people. The energy here almost willed you to relax and let go of everything, and hey, salute to you Las Vegas, because that was exactly what I was doing.
“ Seriously, I’m full. Can you eat it alone?”
“ No.”
He took my hand back in his and we continued walking. I noticed how more than a few women sent him winks and even turned around to look at his ass. They also had a dreamy expression combined with sexual heat in their eyes.
I didn’t like it one bit; he was mine.
What the hell, Jane? Yours for tonight.
Because of our similar clothing, we probably looked like a couple enjoying their stay in the city.
Finally, he stopped in front of a small bakery shop, with a big “Not Your Bakery, Dude” sign, and the display was full of delicious treats, such as muffins, carrot cakes, donuts, and chocolate chip cookies. The light was on inside, but I didn’t notice any people. Before I could think more about it, Drake dragged me inside, where we came face-to-face with a woman in her forties. She wore jeans and a loose white shirt. Her braided sunny-blonde hair fell to the middle of her back. She had a red apron around her middle, and her green eyes sparkled with happiness. She was petite, around 4’10”, and with her features, she looked like a tiny Tinker Bell.
“ Drake.” Her voice was soft and gentle, and for some freaking reason, immediately calmed me down. She circled her hands around his waist and hugged him with all her might, and he returned her hug. “You’re in town again?”
“ Yep, and how could I miss your chocolate cake, Mia?” She gave him a satisfied look.
“ Damn right.” Her green eyes then moved to me, and she was quiet for a bit, studying me, which made me feel conscious of my attire and looks. As much as this whole thing was a one-time thing, I didn't want people he cared about to think I wasn't good enough to be seen with him.
Which was crazy and weird, but whatever.
“ And who is this beautiful girl, huh?” She hugged me close too, and I immediately noticed her warmth and the smell of cookies all over her. She leaned back to look into my eyes again.
“ That’s Jane.”
“ Well then, Jane, it’s nice to meet you.”
My lips spread in a smile as well. “You, too,” I declared.
She motioned to the table near the window. “Go, kids, sit there while I get everything ready for you.” She seated us and disappeared behind the closed doors labeled “Staff Only.”
“ She seems really nice.”
He chuckled. “She’s nice, but can be damn strict too. Trust me; this woman can command whomever she wants. Mia just chooses to be nice.”
My brow raised in question. “How do you know that?”
“ She used to be my nanny.” His words made me blink several times, and he gently closed my gaping mouth.
“ What?”
“ Yeah, back home, when I was a kid, she looked after me. Then when I stopped needing her, my parents fulfilled her dream of owning a bakery, and here she is.” My pulse beat rapidly, and I had to dry my sweaty palms on my jeans. He was rich; no parents had
