still being naked, but a little exposed.
“Don’t hikers come this way from time to time, or boy scouts, who might, you know, catch us walking around as naked as the day we were born?” she asked. The Wolf gave a short, growly laugh.
“Isabel, there’s no-one within three miles of here!”
“But how can you know that?”
“I just do. Can you trust me on this?”
“Ok,” she replied. He was looking at her softly, amused rather than annoyed.
Finally the campsite was in view. Isabel skipped toward it in delight. The animal skins were still by the fire site, but when she got close she could tell the ashes were cold.
“You don’t come here every day?”
“No. I would if I could, but sometimes I don’t have the time.” He put the bag down at the edge of the fire site. “I’ll go and collect some wood for the fire,” he said and was already striding away from the clearing again.
“Do you need any help?” Isabel called after him.
“Yes – you can find some smaller branches if you want,” he shouted. Isabel looked around. It was getting dark more quickly than she’d expected. She walked to the edge of the clearing where there looked to be some branches piled up. Away from the fire site, the heat seemed to have been snatched out of the day. Gooseflesh sprang out over her arms again, and her bare nipples became erect. She gathered a couple of armfuls of wood and brought them to the fire. When she went back into the woods a third time, Peter called to her,
“I’ve got enough now, Bella. Where are you?”
“Over here,” she called.
“Come back!” he shouted, but a mischievous impulse came over her.
“Come and get me!” she yelled.
“What?”
“I need rescuing!” She slipped behind a broad-trunked tree, keeping it between herself and the campsite.
“Seriously?” he shouted. Giggling, she pressed herself against the tree, the bark grazing her nipples and belly, and waited. Before long she could hear Peter stepping through undergrowth in the distance. “Isabel?”
“Come and find me,” she yelled. He was getting closer. There was a delicious frisson in being hunted and a thrill of fear prevented her from peeking to see how far away he was.
“Isabel!” His voice was very close now. Without knowing which direction he was coming from, she burst from her hiding place and sprinted for the opposite side of the campsite. He had been on her left, and he came after her. As she ran, she looked over her shoulder at him. He was loping rather than sprinting and she saw the flash of his teeth in the darkness. Good, he seemed to be enjoying himself too. She speeded up, but he caught up with her quickly, and soon he was on her back. She dodged left and gained a few yards, and left again, and then right. At last, he caught her by some trees near the rock, seizing her by the waist. His teeth snatched at her neck for a second and let go again and he pulled her down in a tackle, cushioning her body against the ground with his. They fell to the earth laughing. Isabel was out of breath.
“That was fun!” she gasped.
“Yes it was,” he said in a low, purring voice. “You really gave me a run for my money there. I didn’t expect you to be so fast!”
“I used to run track, you know,” Isabel replied.
“Wow! You did? What distances?”
“100 and 200 meter dash, of course, that’s why I’ve got an ass like this!” she said, laughing.
“I love your ass,” Peter said, stroking one of her cheeks. He and Isabel were now snuggled in a spooning position, propped up on their elbows. “You’re like a gazelle,” he said, stroking her thigh, and looked down at her with something approaching tenderness. “Quick and strong, but fragile as well. My little gazelle.” His tone was almost crooning and Isabel’s body twitched, surprised at his softness.
“A gazelle and a wolf together,” she said. “I think I know how that story ends.”
“A wolf? You call me a wolf?”
“Maybe,” she said,
