let her in.
âGirl, you are still crazy. And you look good. You havenât changed a bit.â
After they embraced each other, Kiara invited her into the house. They sat in the living room. Kiara handed her guest a glass of red wine, Adinaâs favorite way to chill.
âOkay, boo!â Adina said, sipping on her drink. âWhatâs popping?â
âFirst of all, let me apologize for not doing this sooner. I-I listened to Rashad and you know he felt that as a married woman, I shouldnât be spending so much time with a single woman.â
âI was married too, in the process of a divorce. Damn. Heâs a trip. To not even let best friends be there for each other. What? Heâs scared youâd catch the divorce virus?â
âI guess. So let me get all that out the way.â
âWater under the bridge. Weâre good. Go on.â
Kiara gave Adina the edited version of what had happened in her life the past two years.
âOverall, believe it or not, I think Rashad is a decent husband. Heâs not afraid to get his hands dirty, and I can count on him to take care of us, but I dunno, Adina. Occasionally, I get these feelings . He canât always explain his whereabouts. I can tell when heâs lying and he has no good reason to. And sometimes he starts an argument, leaves the house for hours, and when he gets back, of course, Iâm sleepy as hell and in a bad mood. It just doesnât sit well with me.â
âYou think heâs cheating!â
âI canât believe he is, but I guess itâs possible. But why would a man that has an excellent wife step out on her and fuck around with other bitches? I canât prove it or anything, but if that explains his odd behavior, Iâd be floored. I deserve better. I will have better.â
âKi, Iâm not surprised by anything youâre telling me. Sure, your man is a cutie and all that, but I always felt there was just something about Rashad. If it walks like a rat, what else could it be but a rat?â
âWhy didnât you warn me?â
âGirl, please. Remember those times when I tried? You were not trying to hear a sista. You wouldâve accused me of hating on your relationship like you claimed your other friends did. Humph,â Adina said and rolled her eyes. âPlus, your man actually pulled me to the side one time when yâall first got real serious. He told me not to poison you against him because he was going to marry you whether I liked it or not.â
âHe did that?â Kiara asked.
âRashad wanted your fine ass. You wanted him. Yâall were determined to be the next Nelly and Ashanti. I was a non-muthafucking factor.â
âUm, well damn.â Kiara nodded. âPeople always do stuff behind your back that you hear about later on. And again, I let him influence me in us not speaking anymore. He was my husband. But times have changed and I need some clarity on some things from your point of view.â
âYou got it. Whatâs up?â
âI feel kinda shitty for what Iâm about to say, but I do recall that you started to tell me something about him a couple years ago, but at the timeââ
âBitch, you practically cursed me out, called me all kinds of names.â
âI know. I was tripping.â
âItâs cool. I understand.â
âTell me what you were going to tell me.â
âIs this a setup?â Adina laughed and looked suspiciously around the room.
âItâs not a setup. Itâs a step forward. So tell me.â
âLike I tried to warn you, a few years ago, I saw Rashad pushing up on some broad. A tall chick. Cute girl.â
âHmm. What were they doing?â
âYou sure you want to hear this? Because if I give you this info, Kiara, I do not want you hating me for revealing this shit.â
âTell me!â
âThey were standing real close to each other
