and refused to make eye contact with him. Instead, she lifted her beer mug and drank.
So that’s how it was going to be, was it? Fuck ‘em and leave ‘em? He pretended that didn’t sting like a son of a bitch.
“I wanted to talk to you about something.” Christian didn’t give a shit if he was the third wheel. He wasn’t leaving them alone so his loser brother could follow up and be the one who took her home tonight. His night with Eliana might not have meant anything to her, but Gideon wouldn’t usurp him. Not again.
“Fuck, man. Can’t you see I’m busy?” His brother obviously was pissed by the interruption.
Christian didn’t care. “It’ll only take a minute.”
“I can wait,” Eliana offered. This time, she met Christian’s gaze, and his gut did that stupid tightening thing like it had the first time she’d focused her lovely green eyes on him.
“Fine,” Gideon said with a huff and stepped down from his stool. He didn’t look back as he strode into the backroom.
“Thanks,” Christian said to Eliana who continued to hold his gaze. After the way she’d treated him, he shouldn’t waste another word on her. But fuck if he could help himself.
“No problem.” A hint of a smile crossed her luscious lips, resurrecting memories of the red lipstick ring he’d discovered on his cock the next morning after making love with her. In a crazed moment, he’d considered having the mark tattooed as a reminder of their incredible night, but then had thought better of it.
He cursed under his breath as he walked away. He needed to get his head on straight. Like right fucking now. He grabbed a bottle of beer from behind the counter before he pushed through the door that led into the back area of the bar.
Several of Gideon’s guys divvied out bags of heroin like a girl scout leader preparing her troop to sell cookies door-to-door. Christian raked his gaze over the piles, quickly estimating the street value. Fifty thousand dollars…at least.
“Quit fucking staring at my goods and start talking,” Gideon said. “Did you see that sweet pussy out there? She’s already wet between her legs for me, and you’re wasting my fucking time.” He paused and then laughed. “Get it? You’re wasting my fucking time . Like the time I could be fucking her instead of talking to you. Never mind. Tell me what you need and then get the fuck out of here.”
Heated blood thudded in Christian’s head, making him wonder how the hell he and his brother could have come from the same mother. Check that. Gideon obviously spawned from the asshole and bitch who’d created him. Christian was the odd man out, the only one in their family with a conscience.
He twisted the cap off his beer. “You know what? Fuck it. I didn’t come to ask for shit from you.” He rotated and made it halfway to the door before Gideon called him back.
“Sorry, man. Didn’t mean to get my shit all up in your grill.” He motioned him back. “I got a lot on my mind with Hardy demanding more from my guys. The situation is tense, and if I don’t keep up, he’ll find someone who will, you know?”
Christian swallowed his surprise. This was the first time Gideon had ever vocalized his connection to Hardy, though Christian had suspected it for some time. It was crucial to get the answers they needed to bring down Hardy and Donati. “Sorry, bro. Don’t let the pressure get to you.”
“How the fuck am I supposed to do that? I’m on my last leg with Hardy. If I don’t get this stuff on the street and sell it quick, I’m out.”
Shit. He couldn’t believe he’d finally found a viable connection and now he might lose it again with the blink of an eye. “He won’t get rid of you. He needs you to move product.”
“Yeah, I fucking wish.” He turned to his guys. “That shit should have been ready to go. Let Reggie log what you take and then get the fuck out there. I want cash by morning.”
His minions shuffled faster and soon they
