reminder of both Reid and Vera since he’d worn it to her funeral—had helped me get over the double loss.
But Reid was back. Risen from the dead, unearthing all the feelings I’d struggled to bury in the first place.
I grabbed the hanger supporting the blazer and shoved it toward Reid.
“Here.”
He watched me but he wouldn’t take it.
I scowled and shook the hanger. “Well? Take it.”
He stepped closer, forcing my hand back.
“I don’t want it.”
“You’re joking, right?” I rolled my eyes. “Quit being so fickle and make up your mind about what you want.”
He took the hanger from my hands and flung the blazer into a nearby armchair. Then he moved closer still, standing so close, I couldn't ignore his presence and the heat of his body. His divine smell, woodsy with that same soft hit of lavender, teased me and I inhaled deeply to get as much of him as I could.
“I already did. It took me a while, but I did.”
My breathing came deeper and faster. The rise of my breasts undid the quick towel tuck and I grew aware that that was the only thing covering me. I held the edge of my towel against my body. I didn’t miss the way Reid’s hungry gaze dipped to my chest for a moment before rising to my face again.
“So you didn’t come for the blazer.”
“No.”
“Then you’re a liar.”
“You like to call me names, don’t you?” He hooked a finger in the front of my towel and tugged on it, but I held it tighter. “I was a coward, now I’m a liar.”
“If the shoe fits. I call it like I see it. Whatever other analogy that applies.”
He tugged on my towel again. I continued to resist.
“Are you happy to see me, Mac?”
I wasn’t giving in that easily. “No.”
“Then you’re a liar too.”
“I guess it takes one to know one.”
He laughed and my entire body came alive at the sound. Dear god, if I stuck around this man too long I’d need a new heart.
“You know, I can’t believe it,” he said, his voice husky. He unhooked his finger from my towel and brought his hands around me instead, pulling me to him. This time I went without even the slightest bit of fight.
“You can’t believe what?”
He bent his head, his lips hovering over mine. My eyes drifted shut and I eagerly waited for the moment when he’d kiss me.
“I can’t believe I was ever willing to let you go.”
His mouth came down onto mine, pushing away the surprise his words wrought in me for another time. Right now, all I could focus on was his kiss. Slow and tender his mouth moved over mine until his tongue slipped out to caress the seam of my lips. I opened to him readily, between my legs tingling the moment his tongue touched mine.
Our kiss remained sweet and exploratory for a short moment. Soon, as always, the desperation crept in. It always did because only Reid could make me feel like this just from a kiss. I burned as though fire had replaced my blood. Though all I wore was a towel, I wanted to be free from it. I wanted to feel Reid’s heated skin pressed against mine.
“Oh god, Reid, I want you. I want you so much,” I said against his lips.
“Oh yeah? I thought you said you didn’t miss me.” He moved his mouth along my jaw, kissing all the way to the sensitive spot just beneath my ear. I shivered, squeezing my legs together to quell the ache in my pussy.
I gripped his shoulders. “Shut up and take off your clothes.”
He moved his mouth back up to mine and kissed me hard.
“Beneath your gorgeous exterior lies a bossy little brat.” Grabbing hold of the front of my towel, Reid yanked it down, exposing my naked body beneath. His hands came around me again, grabbing my bare ass in a firm, possessive hold with a low growl of approval. “And I can’t wait to set you straight.”
I scoffed. “You’re all talk and no—”
His mouth came back down onto mine, his tongue plunging past my lips. I gasped into his mouth, clinging to his shoulders as he walked us backward. The backs of my
