move sideways as he approached.
His steps were sure and confident as he flowed toward her. For a second she
imagined him wearing combat gear and honing in on his target, and she
could understand the fear that person would experience.
As she moved a bit more, she saw a glimmer of desire flare in his
eyes at the prospect of a hunt. He slightly shook his head at her and flashed a
crooked half smile. ―I think you are out of options, liebling .‖
While she wasn‘t as athletic as the man stalking her around her yard,
Kacy was in decent shape. Feinting one way, she bolted off in the other
direction and almost made it to the steps when she was tackled.
Ernst took the brunt of the fall and then rolled her over so he was on
top. Nose to nose with her, he clucked. ―What do I get for capturing you?‖
His hands were beneath her shoulders as his lips moved over hers.
Breathing hard for more than one reason, Kacy shook her head at
him. ―A glass of iced tea?‖
―Well something sweet was on my mind, but I don‘t think tea will do
it. I was thinking of some brown sugar and cinnamon.‖ His eyes darkened as
his mouth claimed hers.
Her body arched against his as wetness flooded it. I want you so bad,
Ernst. But I don’t want you to tell me how horrible I am in bed. Kacy didn‘t even
realize her body had stiffened.

Ernst did. Drawing back from the kiss, he rolled off her and got to his
feet, pulling her up after. ―What wicked thought crossed your mind this time,
Kacy?‖
She shook her head and refused to look at him.
Gathering her to his chest, Ernst put his chin on the top of her head.
―Do you not see how perfect your body fits mine? We were made for each
other Kacy. Nothing that fits like this can be bad. Let go of this fear you have;
we will be wonderful together. I know this for a fact.‖
Kacy opened her mouth to respond when the phone rang from in-
side. Her body slumped for a moment before she untangled herself from his
embrace and walked up the steps to the porch. With one last glance at him
she walked in the house and picked up her cordless phone.
She made some notes on a pad of paper as she listened to her poten-
tial client. ―Sure thing. I can be there in about thirty minutes. Electricity
doesn‘t care what time it is, sir. See you soon. Yes, sir.‖ She clicked off the
phone and stood. ―Damn.‖
―What was that about?‖ Ernst asked from behind her.
Jumping, she turned. ―I didn‘t know you were in here. I have to go.‖
Kacy walked to her bedroom ignorant of the fact that Ernst was once again
following her.
―Where are you going?‖ he questioned as she entered her closet and
pulled out a pair of jeans and a tee shirt.
―About thirty miles from here. I don‘t know him. New client.‖ Her
fingers were on the buttons of her shirt as she began to undress.
Ernst continued watching her and Kacy tried to stay calm. The fact he
kept his distance spoke volumes. ―Let me come along,‖ he said as gently as
he could.
For a moment, Kacy worried the inside of her lower lip, unsure if she
should keep undressing. When he made no further movement, she decided to
proceed, especially since she did feel comfortable with him. Safe even.
Shrugging out of the silk blouse, she pulled on the tee shirt and began to
change pants.
―Is there a particular reason you want to come along on my call?‖
―Not really, other than the fact he is a man you don‘t know, and it is
ten-thirty at night,‖ he growled, watching her slide on the other pair of jeans.
―Sure, but you can‘t get in the way.‖ Her words were quick. He
didn‘t miss the smile she had.
Ernst climbed in her van; and Kacy felt him watching as she clipped
her cell phone on her side, got into her van, and backed out of the garage,
driving off into the night.

Rubbing the back of her neck, Kacy restocked her van. It was one in
the morning and she was exhausted.
