time,’ I concede, viewing my building in front of us.
He pulls into a parking space opposite and
I turn to open the door, ‘Lucy,’ he calls and I turn, ‘tonight!’ he demands and
I roll my eyes towards him, before exiting the car.
My stomach is churning as I enter the
building moving into the elevator, what the hell…. Susie must have informed him
I have a date, bloody men only want what they can’t have!
I am distracted for the whole morning, my
mind rewinding to that early morning kiss, my insides flutter at the memory.
What am I doing? Matthew is a decent man I cannot mess him around it isn’t
fair. Cameron is only interested because he has heard that I am going out with
another man.
By lunchtime my brain is fried!
‘Hey,’ Susie calls from our regular table
in the canteen.
‘Hi,’ I flop down opening my salad box.
    ‘Everything ok?’ Suze enquires cautiously.
‘Not really,’ I mutter, ‘I had a visit from
our mutual friend this morning,’ my eyes find hers and her lips tighten.
‘I warned him to stay away,’ she fumes.
‘I take it you informed him of my date
tonight?’
‘I did, in an attempt to keep him away, he
has been hounding us for your number. I thought by informing him you have a
life, he may relent.  I guess I should have known better.’
‘Well, he has it now, don’t worry I will
sort it out.’ I empathize with Susie, Cameron can be extremely persistent at
times.
Maddie joins us and the subject is dropped
for obvious reasons.
I receive a text from Cameron lunchtime to
remind me.
    Tonight! Call me!
By the end of the day I am a bundle of
nerves, I move down into the Reception area where Matthew is waiting.
‘Hi,’ he smiles as his eyes move over me,
‘you look as lovely as ever.’
‘Thank you,’ I smile, he is such a sweet man.
‘Shall we?’ he gestures towards the door.
We end up in a small wine bar, a few
streets away, where we sit by the window and Matthew orders a bottle of wine.
‘Do you want some food?’ he asks.
‘No, I am fine thank you, Matthew.’
I feel my phone vibrate in my bag and
choose to ignore it.  Matthew and I chat about life in general and I find out
he is twenty nine and recently come out of a long term relationship.
‘So, what happened?’ I enquire, intrigued.
‘We just drifted apart, we are still
friends…..well of sorts.  She is a career girl, eager to reach her potential within
her field, it became that we rarely saw each other in the end.’
‘Such a shame, how long were you together?’
I probe.
    ‘Seven years,’ he nods.
Well he is on the rebound, I think as I
digest this information, my phone vibrates again and he states, ‘feel free to
get that, I won’t be a moment,’ and he heads in the direction of the men’s
room.  I locate my phone and lift it unsurprised to find Cameron’s name on the
front.
    ‘Hi,’ I murmur quietly.
‘Where are you?’ he questions sternly.
‘Cameron,’ I warn, my insides anxious that
Matthew could appear at any moment, ‘I am on a date!’
‘What time is it ending?’ he demands.
I sigh, ‘I will call you.’
‘Soon? I want to feel you Lucy,’ he
whispers and my insides grow heavy, ‘I want to be inside you.’
‘Cameron,’ I croak, as I notice Matthew
returning, ‘I have to go,’ I end the call dropping my phone into my handbag.
    ‘Everything ok? Matthew checks.
‘Yes fine,’ I smile, my cheeks flushed.
An hour later I can take no more, ‘thank
you for the drink Matthew, I need to make a move I’m afraid.’
‘Oh ok, plans?’ he appears disappointed.
‘I just have a couple of things to do at
home before the morning,’ I lie.
‘Ok, can we do this again?  Maybe dinner
next time?’ he requests.
‘Sure’ why am I tying myself up here, just
say no!  Why should I just because Cameron clicks his fingers?
We walk outside and I turn, ‘thank you
again Matthew see you soon.’
‘You are welcome,’ he bends to kiss me but
I move so that he
