have faded. Except it hasn’t. I’m a whirlwind of emotions. I damn well know where Ford’s motivation came from, but no fucking way does it justify or excuse his actions. Except… somehow it does. And yet, it doesn’t. Dammit. Did I mention a whirlwind?
I don’t need this right now. There’s too much going on. We need to temper the connection since my brother screwed shit up. Sure Ford kidnapped me first, then my brother interfered, and then the car bomb… all of this, plus Borya getting hurt in the process. Shit.
Staring down at the file in front of me brings me back to my own screwed-up emotions and yet a brand new job. With the meeting coming up with the gang leaders, I have to review this information, and it’s gut-twisting. There’s a new gang on the rise. The fuckers are dealing drugs and kidnapping women to use in snuff movies. Sound familiar?
There’s that whirlwind again. Why now? Seems like a fucking creepy coincidence. Except with this gang it seems they don’t target young girls. Yeah, I dug a little deeper the second I got home from meeting Ford. With a little arm twisting, Afon broke and told me everything he knew.
Again, I try to focus on the stuff in front of me, shoving the shit with Ford in the back of my mind. The harsh noise of a throat clearing makes my head whip up.
“Are you ready to leave?” Afon’s voice is as sharp as his Armani suit.
Shaking my head slowly, I reply, “You can damn well see I’m wearing my robe. Gimme ten minutes and I will be.”
Yes, I’m wearing the robe Ford gave me. So what? It’s a nice robe. Normally, I’d let it fall to the ground, but instead I drape it over the bed as I make my way to the bathroom for a very short shower. After quickly drying off, I step into my dark purple thong. I then slip into the gorgeous, dark plum-colored dress and cinch in my chest with the tight bodice before adjusting the straps encrusted in rhinestones over my shoulders.
It’s made of soft flowing fabric that falls in waves to the floor. The tight top has a sparkling line of rhinestones going from the right side of my waist up between my breasts and over my shoulder. Silver-strap heels and long silver earrings complete the outfit. Instead of spending too much time on my hair, I keep it loose and spread out over my back. I keep my make-up to a minimum for a natural look since the dress is stunning enough to make a statement.
Before I leave my bedroom I cross to the tiny closet in the corner and pull out a four-inch blade and strap it to the inside of my left leg. I check the mirror to ensure it doesn’t show in the large split of the dress. Content with what I see, I head outside to meet Afon.
Slipping inside an armored, black Mercedes S600 Guard, we drive in silence for over thirty minutes before we pass through wrought-iron gates and reach a large mansion. There are a lot of classy cars parked out front, indicating we’re among the last guests to arrive.
Afon steps out first and walks around to assist me. He places a hand at the small of my back and guides me inside the mansion. All of the guests are in a large ballroom-like space, standing, chatting, and some are even dancing to the live music that’s set up in a corner.
Before we reach the bar, a huge chest steps in front of us. “Do not touch her.”
Great. Ford’s rumbling voice makes goosebumps break out all over my skin. I feel Afon’s hand tremble at my back, and I know he’s close to making a scene.
“Afon, would you please get me a drink so I can speak with Ford?” My voice is sweet, yet my second-in-command knows it’s an order.
“You’re aware Filippov’s here?” Ford growls.
My eyes scan the room and shit, the fucker is heading straight for me. Before I can think things through, I act on instinct.
