for you. I can’t believe you did that for me. I was going to come just watching you.”
“That would have been hot,” she said as she ran her fingers down my chest.
“Well, next time you might succeed.”
“And I know that would never happen with another girl.”
I rubbed my nose against hers. “Definitely not. No one compares to you, baby.”
“ I know they don’t.”
I grabbed her face and forced her eyes on mine. “You’re never leaving me. I won’t let you. You are mine forever and always.”
She stared at me for a moment. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Good. Because you didn’t have a choice anyway,” I said. “I’ve been with a lot of women, Janice, but none of them compare to you. You’re everything I’ve always wanted in someone else. You’re everything to me.” I pressed my forehead against hers. “I—I couldn’t even imagine what I would do if you left me. I don’t want to think about it.”
She ran her fingers through my hair while she looked at me. “You never have to worry about that, Ryan.”
“I’ll never lie to you, betray you, or cheat on you. I will do everything I can to make you as happy as you make me.”
She smiled. “You already have.”
“Then I’ll keep doing it,” I said as I kissed her on the forehead.
“Good. I look forward to it.” She moved next to me, and I felt her warm skin against mine.
I leaned over and licked the sweat from her chest before I rose from the bed. “I’m going to shower, baby. I’ll be right back.”
She smiled. “Okay. Hurry.”
“I always hurry.” I went into the shower and got under the warm water. After I washed my hair and scrubbed my body, I returned to the bedroom and crawled under the sheets next to Janice.
“Your phone kept ringing. It was Missy.”
I felt my heart fall. Janice didn’t seem mad but I was still worried. “Oh? Did you answer it?”
“No,” she said quickly. “It just wouldn’t stop ringing and it was annoying so I just turned it on silent.” She looked at me hesitantly. “I hope that’s okay. I didn’t mean to go through your stuff.”
I smiled. “Baby, I don’t care at all. You go through my stuff all you want. I was just scared you were mad at me.”
“Why would I be mad?” she asked.
I stared at her incredulously. “Well, some girl you’ve never met has been calling me at night. I think that’s enough to make anyone angry.”
“I trust you, Ryan. I don’t care who calls you.”
I was speechless. It took me a few moments to organize my thoughts. “Baby, that means the world to me. And your trust isn’t misplaced. You never have to worry about that.”
She grabbed me and pulled me closer to her. “I know, Ryan. Now shut up.”
I smiled at her. “I’m sorry. You just mean so much to me. I never want to lose you.”
“Keep being an amazing guy and you never have to worry about it.”
“Okay.” I kissed her on the forehead then closed my eyes, smelling her scent as I fell asleep.

I vaguely felt warm moisture on my neck as I slept. When I heard the sound of quiet sniffs and audible crying, I was pulled from my dream. I looked over at Janice and saw her crying to herself. She was asleep, but she was still sobbing. She clutched her body tightly as she curled up into a ball. The sight broke my heart.
“Baby, wake up,” I said I leaned toward her ear. I wrapped her in my arms and shook her gently. “Come on. Come on.”
She continued to cry.
“Baby, wake up!”
Her eyes darted open and she moved away from me, clearly frightened. She looked around the room, searching for a demon that wasn’t really there. I held up my hands and didn’t touch her. She clutched her heart and stared at the blanket on the mattress.
“You’re safe, baby. Don’t be scared.”
She finally looked at me. “Ryan.”
I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her back to my chest. “It’s okay,” I said quietly.
She buried her face in my neck and
