you this, but…did you and Luca…?”
Cora’s gaze snapped to his. “Did we what? Form an alliance? Yeah, I needed his help.”
“No, that’s not what I meant.” He cleared his throat. “Did you and Luca fuck?”
    “What?”
He could tell from the shock all over her face that the very idea of what he was suggesting was abhorrent to her.
“We’re staying at my apartment. He sleeps on the couch,” she told him. “I don’t…I wouldn’t…do that to Ryan, Josh.”
Josh held up his hands in surrender. “I’m sorry. I had to ask. When we realized that you had saved Luca from being fried by the sun, Ryan thought—”
Cora shot to her feet. “Ryan thinks I slept with Luca? Oh, shit! Shit!”
“It’s okay. You can clear it up when he gets back. The main thing is that you didn’t. Fuck, if you had, I can’t even imagine what he would’ve done. He would’ve gone off the fucking deep end, that much is a given.”
“He already did,” she blurted out.
“What?” Josh asked, rounding the table towards her. He perched on the table top in front of her. He saw her hesitation. Shit, what the hell happened? The two of them had grown close over the last few months; they’d had many heart-to-hearts. She was like his sister. This was the first time that she’d acted so guarded about something. “Cora?” he pressed. “What did he do? Did he hurt you?” Fuck, Ryan and that damned temper of his.
“That night that Nathanial and I tricked Luca into sleeping with a shadow version of me, I…uh…before Nathanial worked his magic I had to keep up the ruse and so I made him think that I wanted him.”
Josh nodded. “Go on.” He wasn’t a fool. He knew what that meant.
“Well, after we left, Ryan had this insane need to reclaim me or something.”
    “Alpha wolf mentality.”
“Right, well he didn’t give me any warning and he kinda…tasted Luca…on me. Smelled him as well.”
Josh cocked an eyebrow. “Oh fuck.”
“Yeah. I tried to explain to him, reason with him, but he went crazy. He fucked—uh— used me like a whore. The things he said as well…they were…I didn’t know he had that in him. It was awful.”
“You can’t reason with an Alpha wolf over something like that. His reaction was primal, there’s no stopping it. It was the wolf talking.”
Cora studied Orion for a few moments. “I’m not wolf, Josh,” she murmured quietly.
“No, you’re not. But you definitely have the attitude. I knew it the moment you showed up at the compound that first time looking for Ry.”
“I can’t even take care of my son when he’s wolf,” she said, gazing at Orion sadly.
Josh considered his response carefully. He hesitated, knowing that Ryan wouldn’t be pleased with what he was about to do. But Josh wasn’t too pleased with the way that Ryan was handling this entire situation. He wasn’t pleased with the way he was treating his wife and keeping her from connecting fully with her own son, because of his damn possessiveness. His reaction to that wolf girl in the Dark Realm wasn’t sitting well with him either. He’d better keep his fucking dick in his pants. Cora doesn’t deserve that. He also wasn’t too happy that Ryan had just taken off to the Dark Realm immediately after the human realm wolves under his charge and his own pack had faced that agony from Oriana’s actions. Ryan had just left him to deal with the fallout.
He’d been doing that too much lately. Josh didn’t have a problem taking the reins every now and then. In fact, he enjoyed it whenever he was given the opportunity and he was good at it. It was why Ryan had chosen him as his second-in-command in the first place. The problem that he had with Ryan right now was that he seemed to be choosing his duties in the Dark Realm over his duties to his pack. The pack—just them alone—hadn’t been together with Ryan for months. And Ryan hadn’t said a damned thing about it.
Had he even noticed at all? He was
