like Hailey.
“You are so talented,” I la ughed. “Please forward the email. ”
“Absolutely,” h e smiled, and took my hand and squeezed it.
“Awe,” Kaitlyn , the queen of romance, sighed when she saw. “How was your evening? Are you two in love now?”
I felt my face turn red.
“Sure,” Michael shrugged . He raised my hand and kissed it.
“What about you and Derek,” Kaitlyn asked Erica.
“Eh . Not sure with him. He’s kind of the mysterious type.”
Michael smiled at me and shook his head enough for just me to see.
I opened Michael’s hand and saw the numbers Hailey wrote. The zeros were hearts. I wanted to puke, literally!
I licked my finger and started wiping it across his hand smearing the numbers away, not even caring if he’d get mad. I had put up with her crap for over 6 years and I wasn’t going to spend the rest of my perfect date with Michael wondering if he was going to call her after he left me.
“I could have done that,” he smiled, watching me stick my finger in my mouth again “Although, that’s extremely hot when you do that,” he winked.
I gave him a friendly warning glare and continued wiping it off. “So what are the numbers about?” I knew I sounded jealous. I didn’t want to but I couldn’t help it.
“Not really sure. She said something about her Daddy” he said with sarcasm, “Not sure yo u are aware he is the principal ”
“Really?” I gasped . “Never heard that one before.”
“She said that if I wanted to lift weights or use the gym for basketball, she could make it happen. But it would have to be a day that she could go with me , ” h e laughed.
“There is no way a principal is going to give the keys to the gym to his daughter and a guy. She has got to be insane.”
I looked at my phone to make sure we weren’t going to be late. I was curious about how Derek and Erica got along, but figured it wasn’t that great since she wasn’t hanging all over him at the moment and he was outside with the jocks .
“When do you need to leave?” Michael asked.
“We have at least thirty minutes. Her mom goes to bed early, so she never knows if we are a little late.”
I glanced up and saw Brad standing at the register.
“C ould we go ahead and leave now? We can talk in her driveway until our curfew . ” I wanted to avoid Brad at all cost.
    “Sure. But why?”
“No reason.” I didn’t want him to think I was crazy for feeling uncomfortable around Brad.
We stood up to leave when I saw Brad walking toward us. He bumped hard into Michael causing him to fall into Erica. She fell to the floor.
“Hey, what’s the deal?” Michael said, helping Erica up.
“Oh man, I didn’t see you,” he lied. “We cool?” He asked , holding out his hand to shake.
“Yeah, it’s cool,” Michael looked down at Brad with a look that was far from being cool.
I started to get nervous. “Can we leave?”
“Yeah,” Michael said not taking his eyes off Brad. “Go get Derek.”
I stood there for a minute while the two had their standoff. Michael looked over at me. “I’m coming,” he said without moving.
I could tell Brad was trying to intimidate Michael. I have seen him do that to a lot of guys. They always backed down. Always.
I started walking toward the door, stopped and looked back at them. Neither had moved.
Michael gestured for me to leave with his eyes. I decided I’d run out and tell Derek what was going on. I didn’t want them to fight, but more than that, I didn’t want Michael to let Brad win like everyone else did.
“Derek,” I said, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him away from the crowd. I didn’t want to bring attention to what was going on.
“Michael won’t do anything wrong. He’s not stupid,” he reassured me.
A few minutes later Michael walked out the door. Erica was right behind him.
“Let’s go,” he said, taking my hand. He opened the car door for me and walked around to the other side. It took him a moment
