me.â
âBut I wonât,â Cookie stated blankly.
â I know that, and you know that, but they donât. So youâve got to lay low, anâ tell Harry the same.â
â Crap! â
âWhat?â
âMissing dinner at your house like major sucks!â
âOh, Iâm so sorry that my hot date messes up your weekend,â Max drawled sarcastically.
âOkay, I like get it,â Cookie answered crossly. âNo need to freak out.â
âWhoâs freaking out?â
âYou are.â
âI am so not.â
But inside she was, just a tiny bit.
Shutting her cell, she hurried over to her laptop and quickly logged in. â Iâll be in Big Bear Friday afternoon ,â she tapped out. â Where shall we meet? â
Within minutes Grant had e-mailed her back. â Meet me in the Kmart parking lot. Stay in your car. Iâll find you .â
Iâll find you! How romantic was that ?
She rushed to her closet, desperately trying to decide what to wear. Skinny jeans or short skirt? T-shirt or sexy tank? Bra or no bra? Strappy heels or flats?
She finally decided on tight jeans and a layered T-shirtâbest to go the casual route, she didnât want to look as if sheâd tried too hard.
How tall was he? Sheâd forgotten to ask.
It didnât matter. This weekend she was doing the deed with her Internet hottie.
Oh yeah! She was doing the deed and there would be no regrets.
Sorry, Donny. You blew it.

âRemember the first time we met?â Lucky murmured later that night as she and Lennie lay in bed.
âYou think I could forget?â Lennie responded. âIt was Vegas, anâ if I recall correctly, you tried to rape me.â
âYou thought I was a hooker,â she said indignantly.
âYeah,â he agreed, laughing. âAnd a very expensive one.â
âScrew you,â she said, pretending to be mad. âI wanted to sleep with you and you turned me down.â
He raised an eyebrow. âI did?â
âYou know you did.â
âYeah, well, didnât we make a date for later and you failed to show?â
âAs if I would after the way you treated me.â
â Then you had me fired,â he said, mock-frowning at the memories. âNice. Very nice. I was out on my ass with nowhere to go but down.â
Lucky smiled as she remembered. Lennie had been working stand-up in the lounge of the Magiriano, her hotel. Sheâd felt restless and lonely and he was there and available, so sheâd invited him up to her suite, and when sheâd indicated that she expected a lot more than conversation, heâd walked out on her.
âThe thing is Iâd heard you were such a major playa ,â she teased. âSo how come you rejected me ?â
ââCause you came on like a guy,â he said, reaching over her for a bottle of FIJI Water.
âSomething wrong with that?â she said, challenging him with her dark eyes.
âWhynât you shut up anâ câmere,â he said, putting the bottle down.
âOkay, mister,â she said, playing along. âTake off your pants and show me some action.â
âThought I just did.â
âOh, my bad,â she said, laughing softly.
âHow quickly they forget,â he sighed.
âForget you? Never ,â she said teasingly.
âAnyone ever tell you youâve got a smart mouth?â he said, throwing her a quizzical look.
And before she could answer, he was pressing his lips down on hers and they were starting all over again.
A long and sexy marriage suited both of them.

She actually wanted to say weep , because sexually Anthony was totally inept. He was under the impression that climbing
