inside out.
Blissed out and sated, I laid back on the bed with his body over mine. Fingers skimmed through his sweat-soaked hair while our breathing calmed. Head on my chest, Jackson kissed any part of me that was within his reach.
“That was…” no words could describe just how amazing he was.
“Us. Simply us.” I could hear the smile in his voice.
“Hey,” I whispered out. “Look at me.”
Placing his chin on my right breast, he gazed up. “What? I’m comfortable over here.”
Jackson Reed could be a grouchy ass when pulled from his comfort, but he was mine. Had been so for the past five years.
    “Happy anniversary, Doc.”
“Happy anniversary, sweetheart.” Smile wide and eyes bright, he gave me a toothy grin. It made him look boyish, younger than his thirty plus years. “How’d you pull it off? Not once has my pager gone off or my name been called through the speakers.”
“Easy.” Raised brow and a wave of the hand to continue was his way of telling me to spill. Cute. “Your boss, Michelle, owed me.”
“Full answers.” There’s the dominant man I married.
“I might have taken her wife out for some pampering two weeks ago…” shrug and smirk “…convinced her to get a wax. Gloria loved the feel, and your boss sent me flowers.”
“How long have you been planning this?” Another kiss and then a nip to my pert nipple.
“Few weeks now with your favorite nurse. That’s how we got Anderson to help. Made it more believable to use the same arresting officer from the night we met. Your nurse owns his balls, they met through my arrest that night, and they owed me. Win-win in my book.”
This night was about reliving our first memory and alternating a bit. Yes, he asked me out and got my number, but we didn’t get dirty. Not until much later in the relationship. Tonight I wanted to play out a mutual fantasy.
“You sneaky, mischievous, wonderful woman.” Standing up, he slipped from within me and brought me to stand with him. Our chests pressed against the other’s, he brought his hands up and caged my face in them. “How’d I get so lucky?”
“I’m the lucky one, baby. And I also had ulterior motives for tonight.”
“Should I be scared? How much?”
Rolling my eyes, I stood up on the tips of my toes and nipped his bottom lip, hard. “Shut up and quit ruining my surprise.”
“Violent little thing.” My eyes narrowed. “Fine, carry on. But after, it’s your ass.”
“Wouldn’t want it any other way, Jackson.” Taking in a deep breath, I let it out slow. Wrung my hands together and then shook them out. Things were about to change in the best of ways. “Do you trust me?”
“With my life and you know that.”
“Then walk over to the cabinets against the wall and open the drawer closest to us.”
    “What?”
“Go.” Taking his hands from my face, I kissed each palm and then took a step back. Watched with a giant knot in my stomach as he pulled up his pants and followed my directions. How he opened that drawer and took out the small gift bag I’d placed inside with a perplexed look on his face.
Turning to face me, he held it up. “What’s going on here?”
Tears sprung in my eyes and I let out a shaky breath. “Open it.”
    “Baby?”
“Please.” With a worrisome expression, Reed tore open the bag and then choked on his next breath. Hands trembling, he took out the tiny surprise inside. Examined my gift with so much love, I had to take a moment to collect my own emotions. “When I found out all I wanted to do was make this moment memorable for you. You’re going to be the best father, Reed. Someone they’ll look up to and know without a shadow of a doubt how much they’re loved.”
Eyes on the smallest lab coat I could find, he smiled. “I’m going to be a daddy?”
“Yes.” With that confirmation he walked over and wrapped me in his arms. Made me feel secure and loved. Protected. “Baby Reed will be here in the winter.”
    “Fuck, I love
