“If you attempted to open the door, you would see that I didn’t lock it.”
The smell of Savannah hit my senses the moment I stepped into the steam-filled room. Her favorite strawberry scented body wash filled the air, and I breathed in deeply, becoming intoxicated instantly. When I swung my eyes around the room, they landed on Savannah lazing in a deep bath, the water from the faucet filling the tub quickly and bubbles covering her body. I sat on the slate tiles beside the bathtub and faced my irritated yet satisfied girlfriend. She rolled her head and faced me with green eyes that were softening and lips that curved slightly into a weak smile.
    “We have to talk.”
“What do you want me to say, Tate? I went to a work lunch and Blake was there. I couldn’t turn around and say no to a work lunch, could I? This is my job. He sat beside me and we chatted. It was nice to have someone to talk to who wasn’t all about work. He is happy in his new relationship, and the majority of the conversation was about you. So I am pretty bloody sure that he knows how much I am in love with you.” She whispered the last few words and I felt my heart squeeze in my chest. “I just wish you would trust me, Tate.”
I felt my blood boiling and the tension twisting deep in my chest. How could I possibly make her see that it wasn’t her I didn’t trust? That it was everyone else? I would fight for her until I took my last breath. She was my special one, the one who made everything finally seem okay.
“I do trust you. You are the only person I trust, Sav. It’s Blake that I don’t trust.”
“You should trust me enough to know that I would never cheat on you. Not with anyone.” Her voice was laced with accusations. My trust issues had reared their ugly head again. Now we were in the same conversation we had had so many times before and it all boiled down to my insecurities.
“Well I’m sorry for giving a fuck about my girlfriend and wanting her to stay away from the guy I despise the most in this world. Fuck me for wanting my girlfriend to myself and fuck me for being a jealous prick who can’t stand the thought of another man anywhere near my girlfriend.” I sighed in frustration, dropping my hand from her face in defeat. It was like being on a merry-go-round that I couldn’t get off. I rubbed my hands over my face in frustration.
“You need to remember that you are the one in my bed. You are the one who makes love to me, the one who knows every inch of my body, and the one whose baby I am carrying. I haven’t thought about Blake since that night, and I sure as hell won’t be going back to him. Do you even realize that no other guy is going to ever compare to you? Tate, you have me for life. You have me and this little person for life.”
I raised my head at the sound of her voice, my breathing faltering at her words. Her green eyes were searching mine and finally they had softened to the point of love. I stood and looked down at her. She was terrifyingly beautiful, and she was mine.
Savannah’s eyes ran the length of my body, narrowing in on my tattoo I knew she loved. I haltered at the edge of the bath, waiting for my invitation. Nodding, she gave me the answer I needed. Stepping into the deep bathtub, I folded my body behind hers, wrapping my legs around her and pulling her back into my chest. She relaxed against my chest with a deep sigh, intertwining her fingers with mine. This was what we were about, moments like this.
Besides the sound of our breathing, we sat in a perfect silence. I turned my head slightly to look at her. Her eyes closed and her mouth slightly opened. She looked so peaceful. I unlocked one of my hands from hers, moved my fingers to her face, and traced the outline of her jaw before brushing aside a stray piece of hair from her neck. My lips moved to the delicate skin of her neck, splashing kisses and tasting her. She tilted her head, throwing it back to rest on my shoulder,
