descended on him like a ton of bricks.
He’d hurt her - forced her! She’d leave him and it would kill him. He’d lose his mate, his heart, his love…

    *****

Ryker Black woke bathed in sweat. His hands trembled and he struggled to catch his breath. It was a dream. Fuck. It was just another dream. Thank God!
He rolled over and looked at the display on his phone— 3:37am. Fuck! It was the same nightmare he’d had every night since Gerrick Rogue — leader of the Twin Canyon Pack — declared the ban on human/shifter sex would be lifted.
Ryker’s chest tightened and his jaw ached. His dreams were becoming progressively worse. They’d begun with a simple kiss, progressed to vanilla sex, and culminated in Ryker forcing Ally to take his cock up her ass. He didn’t know how much more he could take. Ryker feared his dreams would become reality if he claimed Ally as his mate.
She was the epitome of an alpha female — voluptuous, strong-willed, and intelligent. From the moment he’d met Ally his wolf had chosen her as his mate. She wasn’t the type to submit easily and his wolf craved the challenge of her. He wanted to own her and dominate her, especially when it came to sex. But Ally was human and Ryker would be too much for her. He would never risk hurting her.
Ally was his weakness and the only way he could resist her was to avoid her, a tactic which Ryker had mastered over the past year. When Ryker couldn’t avoid her, he argued with her — anything to keep her from discovering his true feelings. He was in love with her. It was torture at times to push Ally away, but it was for the best. She was his mate. It was his job to protect her. Even if that meant protecting her from himself…

    Chapter One

“Because it’s glorified porn! That’s what you’re asking of me, Jack,” Ally Benson whispered emphatically, conscious of the few remaining staff watching them stroll down the long hallway. Ally had supported all of Jack’s initiatives in the past, but she was drawing the line at this particular request.
“I’ve never known you to be closed-minded, Alison,” Jack chided.
Jack Hayes was the Director of Canine Affairs at the Institute for Human Shifter Relations (IHSR). Only two other such institutes existed across the country. Their purpose was to assist with the seamless integration of shifter breeds into human society.
Ninety percent of humans had no idea that animal shifters existed — a fact that both the government and shifter leaders embraced. The IHSR helped educate shifters on how to conceal their more basic animal instincts, and thus not draw attention to themselves while interacting with those who were fully human.
Ally scowled at her colleague. “I’m not closed-minded, Jack, but even you have to admit that asking me to masturbate in front of eight alpha male wolf shifters is crossing the line.”
They’d entered Jack’s large comfortable office and shut the door. Jack sighed, flopping down on the seat behind his desk. “I know this not your usual area of study, Ally, and you have every right to refuse. But the Pack’s very survival depends on this demonstration.”
"Their survival hinges on the wolves learning how to please a human woman in bed, Jack. That doesn’t mean I have to be their teacher. Why can’t they watch internet porn or hire a prostitute? Why do they need a live demonstration?”
“You can’t seriously be asking me that question?” Director Hayes replied. “You’re the animal behaviorist, Alison. You should have some idea of what makes a shifter tick.”
Ally was a research therapist specializing in amphibian sensory behavior. She was not a wolf expert and knew little about wolf behavior.
Ally mimicked the Director’s behavior and plopped down on the seat opposite his desk with a sigh. “I don’t specialize in wolves, Jack, and you know it.”
He raised an eyebrow at her. She was too smart not to have learned a few basic wolf traits over
