    Content.”
    “Jesus.”
Patrick pulled off his glasses flinging them onto the desk. He stood up from his chair and took a step away from the desk where his computer sat open, the screen filled with what had to be his own personal thoughts. There was no other way to look at the reality of what he’d just written. He may be able to lie (sort of) to Gabriel about his feelings when it came to his newest house guest, but he couldn’t lie to himself, and if hard pressed, he doubted he could lie to Jacob. Thankfully, the other man had taken swimmingly to his job as Patrick’s assistant though his job title should probably be changed to building manager at this point as most of what he did was take care of and fix all of the things around the building that Patrick had been contracting out to others for years.
In the two months that Jacob had come to live with him, the human had slowly but surely carved out his own little spot, waking before Patrick in order to clean the small apartment before making his rounds of the building. The man even went as far as to befriend a few of the older tenants and had daily tea with Mrs. Robinson from the first floor. The ninety-year-old grandmother always sounded so cheerful when Patrick actually bothered to listen in. And Jacob…the man laughed in a way that Patrick had never heard within the confines of their apartment.
“What the fuck am I thinking? Our apartment?” Patrick said to himself with a frown. Sure, Jacob fit in extremely well to his life even going so far as to get along with Gabriel. Patrick enjoyed listening in on their verbal sparring matches, each one trying to one up the other until they decided to turn their attention on him. But even that fun didn’t compare to the nights.
The nights where they slept curled in one another’s arms were Patrick’s favorite.
Nothing had yet happened between them, at least, nothing past the almost, but not quite blowjob on the first day. Not that Patrick didn’t want something to happen, because he really and truly did. He just didn’t know how to make it happen without it seeming like he was paying Jacob for it. Plus, he didn’t want the man to concede out of some half-baked idea that it was part of his job.
Patrick wanted Jacob to want him. He wanted Jacob to want to make him feel what he hadn’t felt in the past decade.
Alive and desired with no other motive but mutual enjoyment.
The sound of the front door to the apartment opening pulled Patrick from his thoughts and he looked gratefully at the closed door of his office. The tent in his jeans would be more than enough to show what he’d been writing about, and though Jacob knew he wrote romance, Patrick didn’t want him to know the particulars of the current novel he was working on.
A soft knock came from the other side of the closed door.
Patrick swallowed thickly before answering. “Yes?”
“There’s someone here to see you,” Jacob said through the door. The other man was more than welcome in Patrick’s office, though he usually stayed out when Patrick was working. A few times Patrick had actively sought out the other man’s opinion on something he was writing just to get a fresh perspective on it. The conversations they had about the characters and possible plotlines were always enjoyable to Patrick and he found that his writing was going a lot more smoothly.
“Alright, I’ll be right there,” Patrick called out. He closed his eyes and thought some decidedly unsexy thoughts in order to will his erection away. The click of the door of his office opening made him open his eyes in panic.
Jacob stood in the doorway staring not at him, but at the still very obvious bulge in Patrick’s jeans. Behind him, Gabriel waved.
    “Jacob…what are you—“
“It’s not his fault, mate. I came to drop off a little gift for you for hitting the best seller list again this month,” Gabriel said pushing past Jacob and into the small office. “Jesus, it
