passage with his slick seed.
“Cat! Fuck! Cat!” It seemed to be all he could say as he poured into her, groaning as his orgasm seemed to tear pleasure from his spine. Every cell screamed with satisfaction. White light exploded behind his eyes, rolling like lightning from his head, down into his chest, before detonating like a star gone supernova.
Em felt as if his borders dissolved and everything that was him washed out into her. And then he felt it rushing back, like the tide, skin and muscle and bone becoming him again. Only different. She swept into him too. Parts of her irreparably meshed with parts of him. She collapsed against his chest, her still damp hair a wild tangle around his face. Em brushed it away and gathered her close.
“Jesus,” she breathed against his collarbone. Her breath was uneven, stuttering. Her body still shivered with aftershocks. She gasped occasionally. “What was that?”
So she had felt it too. Em trembled with the strength of what had poured through him as he came inside this gorgeous, mouthy, Mundane reporter. The strength... and the knowledge.
He stroked her back softly, unable to yet voice his thoughts. It was too big. And too... It never happened. Not ever.
Well, that wasn’t true. Shifters, wolves especially, Mated all the time. It was commonplace. Some even Mated as early as puberty. The Mating instinct was strong, helped continue their species. Whenever two Shifters met and experienced an undeniably strong attraction, they invariably ended up Mated. The desire for each other just grew and grew until they had to have each other or they’d die. Waste away, consumed by desire.
Mating was a mystical, sacred thing among his people.
But it never happened between a Shifter and a Mundane. It wasn’t possible. There was no point, biologically speaking. Shifters couldn’t get Mundanes pregnant, and vice versa.
Em didn’t know what to say. Because there was no doubt in his mind that the raging fire of attraction that had him semi-hard inside Cat even now was no normal sexual attraction. And she’d felt it too.
“Em?” She lifted her head, biting her lip as she looked into his face. “That was... a big deal. Wasn’t it?” He saw the wariness in her eyes. She knew she’d felt something, but was worried it had been only her. He tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
“Yeah.” He still couldn’t find many words. He cleared his throat. “A very big deal.” Relief filled her purple-blue gaze.
“That’s what I thought. This is a Shifter thing, isn’t it?” She stroked his chest. “This... what we’re feeling? I’ve only just met you and yet...”
He nodded. She sighed, snuggling her head back onto his chest. “That’s what I thought. Now what?”
She didn’t seem the least bit phased. Then again, she had accepted the existence of vampires and Shifters with relative calm too. Cat was a remarkable woman. His Mate. Primal satisfaction burned in his chest. She pressed her lips there, as if in response.
“Now? Um...” He rolled to his side, tucking her against the length of his body. He brushed the hair away from her face. “Maybe you could tell me your last name?”
Cat’s eyes popped wide. “Oh my god, I’m such a slut!” Em laughed. Her mouth twitched too. “It’s Dennis. Cat Dennis. And you are?”
“Emilian Lupei. Pleased to meet you.” He flexed his hips, pushing his half-hard cock back into her. She gasped, then snorted.
“Should’ve guessed it would be something like that.” She yawned, eyelids fluttering. “Now that we’ve been properly introduced...”
Em too felt heavy languor settling over him, but he stifled a yawn, nuzzling into her fragrant hair. “This is going to sound really weird... but... tomorrow...” The yawn broke free anyway. “We’ll go see my mother.”
Cat snorted sleepily, twining her legs with his. “That’s the least
