every man is trying to get in your drawers. Craigâs nice and heâs a real gentlemen. If Iâd had my way last night, it wouldâve been a booty call! I think heâs waiting on me to make the first move. I kind of like that. It lets me be in control.â
Monique said, âGirl, if I were you, the next time you get a chance to be alone with him, you should seduce him!â
âWell, sister girl, youâre not me! Besides, I donât want him to think Iâm easy.â
Monique gathered up her shower cap and said, âWhatever! Iâm going to hit the showers. Iâve got class in thirty minutes. Are you done for the day?â
âYes! All I had was the lit exam. Craig doesnât have class on Fridays. I might treat him to a movie or something.â
Monique smiled. âWell, if I donât see you, have a good time.â
âThanks. Iâll page you later to see what youâre up to. Iâm getting ready to go to the beauty shop. See ya!â
Venice drove to the beauty shop with Craig on her mind. She couldnât believe the conversation theyâd had the night before. When she pulled into the parking lot, her beautician, Tamara, was waiting on her. Girl, Iâm glad youâre on time. I have a full day today. How do you want your hair?â
Venice thought for a minute. âI guess Iâll just get it wrapped.â
Tamara giggled. âIâll have you out of here in no time.â
Â
Galen was in class wondering why Venice hadnât returned his page. He couldnât wait to see her, but he was trying not to be upset. One thing heâd told her was that if he ever paged her, sheâd better return it. He didnât care what she was doing, where she was, or who she was with. Galen felt like he wasnât asking a lot. Besides, he was responsible for her while they were away at college. His mom and dad would kill him if something happened to her. Galen knew it would be a few hours before he would be able to confront Venice, so he tried to maintain his composure and concentrate on his classes.
When Venice made it back to campus, she ran into Chanelle who was also finished with her classes for the week.
âHey, girl!â
âHi, Venice! Ooh! Your hairâs sharp, girl. Did you just get it done?â
âYes, I only had one class today and Iâm ready for the weekend.â
âWhat are you getting ready to do?â
âNothing! Do you want to go watch the band practice?â
âSure, itâs not like I have anything else to do.â
As they walked, Chanelle asked Venice, âHey, whereâs your man?â
âI donât know. He didnât have any classes today.â Venice paused a minute. âChanelle, can I tell you something? But you canât tell anybody, and I mean nobody .â
Chanelle said, âGirl, you know you can trust me. We go way back.â
They found a spot to sit down to watch the band practice.
Venice said, âWell, you know Craig came in town last night unexpectedly and he invited me over for dinner. As a matter of fact, he cooked dinner for me. He also helped me study for my exam. Well, after dinner, girl, things started getting really hot! We started kissing and I thought he was going to try to hit it, but he stopped. I felt like I was ready, but I was a little nervous, too. Anyway, now I wish he wouldâve kept going. He stopped himself and then we had a serious conversation about casual sex and protection; stuff like that. I told him I was on the pill, but insisted on condoms also.â
Chanelle looked at Venice with excitement. âGirl, thatâs great! Itâs about time. I could tell he liked you. You should see how he stares at you all the time. If I were you, I wouldnât worry about anything. Take your time and donât rush things. I think itâll happen when you least expect it.â
Venice stared down at the ground.
