every man is trying to get in your drawers. Craig’s nice and he’s a real gentlemen. If I’d had my way last night, it would’ve been a booty call! I think he’s waiting on me to make the first move. I kind of like that. It lets me be in control.”
Monique said, “Girl, if I were you, the next time you get a chance to be alone with him, you should seduce him!”
â€œWell, sister girl, you’re not me! Besides, I don’t want him to think I’m easy.”
Monique gathered up her shower cap and said, “Whatever! I’m going to hit the showers. I’ve got class in thirty minutes. Are you done for the day?”
â€œYes! All I had was the lit exam. Craig doesn’t have class on Fridays. I might treat him to a movie or something.”
Monique smiled. “Well, if I don’t see you, have a good time.”
â€œThanks. I’ll page you later to see what you’re up to. I’m getting ready to go to the beauty shop. See ya!”
Venice drove to the beauty shop with Craig on her mind. She couldn’t believe the conversation they’d had the night before. When she pulled into the parking lot, her beautician, Tamara, was waiting on her. Girl, I’m glad you’re on time. I have a full day today. How do you want your hair?”
Venice thought for a minute. “I guess I’ll just get it wrapped.”
Tamara giggled. “I’ll have you out of here in no time.”

Galen was in class wondering why Venice hadn’t returned his page. He couldn’t wait to see her, but he was trying not to be upset. One thing he’d told her was that if he ever paged her, she’d better return it. He didn’t care what she was doing, where she was, or who she was with. Galen felt like he wasn’t asking a lot. Besides, he was responsible for her while they were away at college. His mom and dad would kill him if something happened to her. Galen knew it would be a few hours before he would be able to confront Venice, so he tried to maintain his composure and concentrate on his classes.
When Venice made it back to campus, she ran into Chanelle who was also finished with her classes for the week.
    â€œHey, girl!”
â€œHi, Venice! Ooh! Your hair’s sharp, girl. Did you just get it done?”
â€œYes, I only had one class today and I’m ready for the weekend.”
â€œWhat are you getting ready to do?”
â€œNothing! Do you want to go watch the band practice?”
â€œSure, it’s not like I have anything else to do.”
As they walked, Chanelle asked Venice, “Hey, where’s your man?”
â€œI don’t know. He didn’t have any classes today.” Venice paused a minute. “Chanelle, can I tell you something? But you can’t tell anybody, and I mean nobody .”
Chanelle said, “Girl, you know you can trust me. We go way back.”
They found a spot to sit down to watch the band practice.
Venice said, “Well, you know Craig came in town last night unexpectedly and he invited me over for dinner. As a matter of fact, he cooked dinner for me. He also helped me study for my exam. Well, after dinner, girl, things started getting really hot! We started kissing and I thought he was going to try to hit it, but he stopped. I felt like I was ready, but I was a little nervous, too. Anyway, now I wish he would’ve kept going. He stopped himself and then we had a serious conversation about casual sex and protection; stuff like that. I told him I was on the pill, but insisted on condoms also.”
Chanelle looked at Venice with excitement. “Girl, that’s great! It’s about time. I could tell he liked you. You should see how he stares at you all the time. If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about anything. Take your time and don’t rush things. I think it’ll happen when you least expect it.”
Venice stared down at the ground.
