never really come to serious blows in their entire lives, and at twenty-nine and thirty-five it didn't look like they ever would.
"Nah, just didn't want to put the old man in the hospital." Ryan grinned, the old, well-used banter between them settling his agitated nerves.
Brett's laughter drew the attention of some of the men, and he slung an arm around Ryan's shoulders, pulled him in close, and bumped his hat off to ruffle his hair. "You young whippersnapper, you."
Ryan pulled free of Brett's grip and gave him a shove before stooping to pick up his headgear. "Knock it off. You're just jealous I can still pull women while they're all passing you by in favor of us younger more strapping blokes." Ryan puffed his chest out and flexed his arms.
Doubled over with laughter, Brett couldn't answer him. Ryan smiled and turned to go back to the office. Before he could stop himself, he pulled his phone from his pocket and checked the display.
"Just ring her, you douche bag," Brett called out from behind him.
Groaning, Ryan climbed the stairs to the office and entered the relative privacy of the small metal box. Throwing his butt into his chair, he began scrolling through his address book to find the number he'd looked up earlier today. He hit call and brought the device to his ear just as the line connected and began to ring.
    "Hello, Claire Jones."
Ryan closed his eyes and let her voice roll over him.
    "Hello?"
    "Hey, Claire."
    "Ryan."
Was it his imagination or wishful thinking that she'd said his name on a sigh? "How's work?"
"Busy." There was a slight pause. "I didn't know you knew where I worked."
"You mentioned it. If you're busy I'll go—"
"No. It's okay. I've got a couple of minutes before I have to be in a meeting."
"Okay, I won't keep you then. Just wanted to invite you to dinner at my place tonight."
    "Dinner?"
"Yeah. Thought I’d throw some steaks on the barbecue. You up for that?"
He heard her sigh across the line. "I'd love that, Ryan. After the day I've had, I probably would have settled for vegemite toast."
"It's a date then. What time should I expect you?"
"As long as I'm out the door at five and traffic isn't bad I'll be home around six, so how about seven for dinner. That'll give me time to get changed and do a few things before coming over."
    "Okay, see you then."
    "Bye, Ryan."
    "Bye, Claire."
Ryan disconnected the call and smiled. He checked his watch, suddenly anxious for the day to be over so he could go home and get ready for Claire. His bed still wasn't made because he'd never gone home last night. His laundry was still at her house, too, but he'd worry about that later. For now he had a meal to plan. A quick trip to the grocery store on the way home so he could pick up something to go with the steaks he’d promised, and he'd have dinner prepared for when she arrived.
He rubbed his hands together. Tonight would be their first official date, and he planned to find out all he could about Claire before he dragged her off to bed. His cock stirred, hardened, and pressed into the fly of his jeans. Cupping his length with one hand he squeezed. The dull throb of heated blood pumping into his erection reminded him of how it felt to be buried in her tight heat. Ryan breathed through his nose and out through his mouth. Pushing his chair under the desk to cover his groin, he prayed no one entered the office before he managed to deflate his eager body.

Tears leaked from Claire's eyes, and the cramp in her side had her bent over she laughed so hard. She hadn't had this much fun with a man over dinner in too long to recall. The conversation had flowed, and the meal Ryan served was delicious. They'd discovered a mutual love of reading and movies. And the debate over which footy team should have won last year's grand final had been heated but in good fun.
With her laughter finally under control, Claire looked at the man across from her and wondered why she'd ever considered him off limits.
