me. I felt a lump well up in my throat and couldn't speak. I put a hand over my heart towards my customers and turned to go. I smacked Donna on the shoulder but she saw the tears welling up.
“Take care of yourself sweetie. We got this.” As I went up the stairs to my apartment I could hear her ordering the billionaire around. I decided to take advantage of all the kindness and really take care of myself. So as soon as I shut my door behind me I slid to the floor and had a good solid cry.
    ***
I entered the shop again feeling ready for anything. I was dressed in a casual business skirt suit. Blue with a white blouse. Clean, my hair professional and just a touch of make up. I was even wearing low heels, which is something I don't normally do working the shop. Crying had released most of my tension and I was ready to take on the world. That turned out to be a good thing. Detective Hanlon was waiting for me. There was no on else in the shop except Max, Axel and of course Donna. Donna saw me come in and I saw her smile with relief. She turned back to the detective.
“You'll have to ask her, officer,” she said. He looked at me.
“I would like to have a few words with you and your friends if I may Ma’am. Can you close up a few minutes?” I saw Donna wince. She knew how I felt about that.
“Sure, it sounds important. Do we still have that be right back sign Donna. I know you didn't throw it away like I asked.” She blushed and nodded, going back to the store room. I got coffee for everyone and had them delivered to the table when Donna walked past with the sign. She shut the door and hung the sign. I sat and she came back standing behind me. The detective looked over at Axel.
“Normally I would just want to speak to the ladies involved, but am I right in assuming you are friends?” They glanced at us and nodded. We nodded too, although we had just met them yesterday. So much had happened in a day!
“Am I also correct in thinking you are the man who runs Cobra Security?” Axel nodded. I had never heard of Cobra Security.
“He actually is Cobra Security,” Max said. The cop nodded and stared at Max a moment. I was sure he recognized him before turning back to Axel.
“Before I go into what I have found out. Could you tell me what you know, sir? I am hoping your sources might have some information that would make me feel better about this thing.” Axel shook his head, pulling out a notebook.
“I doubt it, but here we go. I followed the guy in the vest when he left here. He drove into Little Italy and stopped at a place called Papa's Italiano. He was inside for about an hour and then two guys came out. They got into the same car the Vest had driven and I thought that was strange enough to follow them. They drove around for awhile and stopped for about five minute in front of an apartment on Taber Drive off of Second.” I felt Donna stiffen.
“7845 Taber Drive?” Axel nodded looking at her behind me. Donna's hand on my shoulder was shaking. I covered it with my own.
“I live there,” she said softly. Axel's lips went back in a slight sneer of anger and he glanced at the cop. The detective looked at me. I pointed to the ceiling.
“I live upstairs.” There was silence for a few minutes. Detective Hanlon cleared his throat.
“Do you have anything more Mr. Lanket?” Axel thought about it and then shrugged.
“I waited and followed the two guys until they parked again. I came back here after that.”
“Where did they go?” Max asked before the detective did. Axel leaned back in his chair and squinted out the remaining window. He pointed.
“About four blocks that way, across the street. It looks like they are still there. The car is anyway.” Everyone glared at him. Except the cop. He smiled a little. Axel raised his hands in protest to the glares.
“Look, they aren't doing anything wrong at the moment and this way I know where they are. Calm down.” I stifled a smile. Max snorted but gave him
