believed in the mating bond. I left my pack the minute I could, determined to
make my own way in the world. As it happens I did rather well for myself, but
with that came a price. I became even more cynical about women in general.” He
paused when she frowned at him.
“ Why?”
she asked, and he smiled grimly.
“ Let’s
just say I’ve met my fair share of money grabbing females. The last one almost
had me fooled into believing she was carrying my baby.” He nodded at her sharp
intake of breath. “She wasn’t, but like I said it made me lose trust in women
even more and that blasted bond in particular—until you, that is."
"Me?"
She twisted around to look at him and lost herself in the deep pool of his
now-glowing eyes. "You want to mate with me. How, I mean, really me?"
Her heart skipped
a beat, and a curious warmth spread through her as he continued to silently
study her.
"The how
isn't really important right now. I wouldn't expect you to agree to it. Like you
said, we hardly know each other, but in time, yes. I love you, Anja , and believe me I have never said that to
anyone."
"You
do?" She knew she sounded like a parrot, repeating everything he said, but
she could hardly believe her luck.
"Yes, baby, I
do, if you'll have me."
If she'd have him?
Was the man mad?
"Oh, I'll
have you all right, but I need to warn you. I'm playing for keeps, and once my
parents see you, there will be no getting rid of me, you know."
She smiled at his
wolf's possessive growl and shrieked when he lifted her and flipped her on the
bed.
"Sounds like
all my Christmases have come at once."
