turned up dead at the hands of Malek and Halleigh still chose to be with him, Tasha was through with Halleigh. After all she had done for her, she couldnât believe the choice Halleigh made. With Keesha bringing all that back to her remembrance, she was hurting inside, but not tipping her hand to Keesha, who was still standing in her face.
âIâm good on that conversation, Keesha,â Tasha said. âYou didnât even know my brother, so itâd be best if you wouldnât speak on that . . . ever.â Tasha hoped that Keesha took the words as a threat, because she certainly meant for them to be.
âI hear you,â Keesha said, putting her hands up in surrender. âMy fault, Tasha. I know thatâs a sensitive subject, but just so you know, that bitch Halleigh is gonna get hers. Matter of fact, sheâs getting hers now.â
Before Keesha knew it, the tables had been turned without much effort on Tashaâs part, and Keesha began to run her mouth, all in the name of trying to lure Tasha to run hers.
Tasha wondered what Keesha meant by, âSheâs getting hers now.â It didnât take her too long to figure it out, as Keesha filled her in on the details of Halleighâs whereabouts.
âMitch got that bitch tied up in the basement as we speak.â Keesha leaned in so that the two other chicks whoâd just entered the room wouldnât overhear her. âI donât know what it is about this ho, but she had that nigga all googly-eyed too. I put the work in, though, and switched that niggaâs train of thought real quickâMalek is the enemy, and so is his bitch. She wonât be breathing long.â
Keesha rambled on, thinking it was safe to speak on the situation to Tasha. After the way Halleigh had played both Tasha and her now dead brother, Keesha assumed Tasha would just as well want Halleigh to die in that basement after her disloyalty. Little did Keesha know, she couldnât have been more wrong.
Although Tasha felt played by Halleigh, the two had been through far too much together for her to just flat out wish her dead. She and Halleigh had been like sisters, and a deep-rooted bond still linked the two of them in some crazy sort of way.
Tashaâs heartbeat began to speed up as Keesha spoke, but she kept her poker face on. âDamn, thatâs fucked up,â she said with nonchalance. âI guess karma is a bitch.â
âYes, it is. I pick up money from that spot for Mitch every day and laugh every time I see her dumb ass on them cameras.â
Tasha gave Keesha a slight smile and then cut her short. âAll right, girl, let me get out here and make some of this money. You know how Sweets is if we come up short.â
âAll right then, girl. But remember what I saidâif you ever need to talk, Iâm here.â
Now Tasha was the one painting on the fake smile, making Keesha think sheâd gotten one step closer to her world. âThanks, girl. I really appreciate it.â
Tasha thought of Halleigh tied up and hurt somewhere as she exited the dressing room. A part of her wanted to smile inside and just say, âFuck it! Thatâs what she gets. What goes around comes around.â
But the part of her that had connected with Halleigh from years of friendship wouldnât allow her to do so. Tasha couldnât help but feel guilt, knowing Halleigh was caught up in a dangerous situation. Tasha had always been protective of Halleigh, and felt as though she should do something to help her.
Chapter Seven
A s Tasha received her introduction and stepped onto the stage, the thunderous applause put her mind back on her money and off Halleighâs predicament. Besides, she was no longer Halleighâs keeper, so why should she care what happened to her?
A Plies joint cranked from the DJ booth, and Tasha began to wind her body slowly. She slowly removed the fishnet cover-up she had over her skimpy
