Cardiac Fundraiser Dance
    As you know,
our fundraiser is soon approaching! Thank you for volunteering your
time on this committee. The first meeting will be held in the
Doctor ’ s Committee Room in the Executive building, Tuesday,
April 15 at Noon!
    Thanks, Maggie!
    I checked the
date on the hospital phone because I could swear it was the
fifteenth today, sure enough it was! OMG talk about no notice! I
spent the morning flying solo. I was seeing patients who came to
our cardiology floor from the emergency department that
hadn ’ t been seen by a cardiologist yet. It was fun flying
solo, liberating.
I decided to text Nick in between
patients:
    Chanel: R u @ the H?
    Nick: Yes u?
Chanel: Yes, check your outlook, 1st
committee meeting today in 1 hr
    Nick: Skipping it.
    Chanel: U
better not! U r the 1 who talked me into joining:-( Come get me in
45 min or I ’ ll get all code black
on U
    Nick: Take me
Hostage? (I might like that!) I thought we weren ’ t doing
anymore codes?
Chanel: Just no more sex Dickwad!
    Nick: How come
Bradley isn ’ t taking u? Maybe
he ’ s the DICKWAD!
Chanel: Not sure where he is.
    Nick: OK C u in
45, I ’ ll go 2 u ’ r station.
    Chanel: Good! TTYL.
    Nick always
true to his word showed up fifteen minutes early, “ Tim Horton ’ s, before the
meeting? ”
    I warned him
while grabbing my wallet from the desk and putting it in the pocket
of my white coat. “ Okay
we ’ ll probably be late then, ”
    “Who gives
a? ” Nick commented coolly.
    “You ’ re such a
rebel! ” I said sarcastically.
“Whatever, ” he muttered under his breath. “ You know the truth. ”
    We started
walking to Tim ’ s. As I suspected,
the lineup was quite significant. “ Should we
wait? ”
    Nick
nodded, “ Hell yes. ”
    “Have you asked
Aria yet? ”
    “Why do you
automatically assume I ’ m going to ask Aria
to this? We ’ ve only met
twice. ”
    I grinned at
him, “ I heard the headboard. ”
    Nick flushed as
we took a step closer to the registers, “ I left when you
did! ”
    “Bullshit. You
were there two more hours! ”
    “Jealous? ” He mocked.
“Hardly! ” I looked at my cell. It was five
after, so we were already late and we still had two people ahead of
us.
    “Is Bradley
taking you? ” He questioned
sarcastically.
    “Of course, now
who ’ s jealous? ” I smiled!
    We reached the
meeting room at exactly thirteen minutes after. We were carrying
our unopened coffee ’ s and still smiling
when we glanced around the room to find six sets of eyes focused on
us. We quickly took the two remaining seats at the medium length
rectangular table with Chase sitting at one end and his brother
Bradley at the other.
    Chase spoke
first, “ Good of the two of you to make it, Chanel
and, ” he paused pretending to look down at his sheet for
Nicks name. I knew Chase remembered him from the Paddock and my old
apartment. He was making a point.
    Bradley filled
in the gap. “ NICK, ” his voice was filled with not so
subtle hostility and his eyes went dark. Chase ’ s eyes shot
up at his brother. He appeared to be surprised by the animosity. It
was incredible how the tone of one word painted a picture. Chase
already knew that Nick and I had something going on and now he was
learning that Bradley didn ’ t like Nick for some
reason...
    Nick whispered
in my ear, “ Talk about
jealous! ”
Nick ’ s eyebrows shot up to
Bradley, “ Very intuitive considering you ’ ve never
met me before, BRADLEY. ” Oh my, Nick was
practically challenging Bradley, where did this hostility come
from?
    I looked over
at Nick giving him a warning glare, “ Red ” I hissed in a whisper to
him.
    “Do I sense
hostility? ” Chase asked coming off as being
oblivious to what was going on. It wouldn ’ t have taken
much for the rest of the group to put it together if this kept up.
I addressed Chase, “ Sorry for the
tardiness. It won ’ t happen
again. ”
    Chase studied
me and then Nick before resuming, “ I ’
