and turned to Alicia. âMom, I didnât know you had a semi-nudist colony next door,â he joked.
âIt would appear so.â She huffed and turned to Lauren. âI rest my case.â
Ten minutes later the volleyball rolled over again and this time Nathaniel was behind it.
Alicia leaped up. âMr. Becker!â she called as she walked toward him.
He smiled. âGood afternoon, Ms. Archer. Itâs a lovely day, isnât it?â
âIt was. Are you holding the games for the topless Olympics?â
âWeâre just having a little outdoor fun. Care to join us?â
âNo, thank you. Where are their tops?â
âIn the house, I guess.â
âIâd appreciate if theyâd put them on if theyâre going to come into my yard. I prefer not to see so much silicone after lunch. It spoils my digestion.â
âWhat makes you think theyâre not the real thing?â
âCome now, Mr. Becker, youâre a doctor.â
âIâm interested to hear your take on why you think the boobs arenât real.â
âI donât know, maybe gravity for one thing. With the way theyâre scampering about, real boobs would have at the very least bruised their chins, put an eye out or caused them some other kind of discomfort.â
Nathaniel chuckled. âI guess I canât argue the point.â
âThank you.â
He looked over and saw Kurt. âAre you sure itâs a problem? Iâm positive your son didnât mind.â He walked away from her. âExcuse me, Iâm going to say hello.â
âYou leave my son out of this.â She was on his heels.
âHey, Kurt.â
Kurt sat up. âHey, Nate.â They shook hands.
âHow are you?â
âGood. Iâm starting grad school in the fall.â
âCool.â He nodded. âYour mother tells me youâre bothered by my guests coming over here.â
âThey donât bother me.â
âKurt!â
âIâve seen topless women before, Mom. Itâs no big deal.â
âWhat!â
âThatâs not an image you want to leave your mother with, Kurt,â Lauren said loudly.
âHey, Lauren.â Nathaniel waved.
âHey, Nate.â She leaned back in the chair.
âKurt, while I appreciate your open-mindedness, I will try to keep the scampering to a minimum.â
âThank you,â Alicia said.
Nathaniel looked over at the sliding doors and saw Harrison carrying a tray. âHere comes Harry with some more lemonade for you and your guests, Ms. Archer. Why donât you have a glass and cool off?â
She made a face.
âEnjoy the day, everyone.â He turned and walked back to his bevy of still-topless beauties.
Alicia shook her head in disgust. âGod help me! Iâm living next to a booby wonderland.â She sat back down in her chair while Harrison refilled her glass. âThanks, Harrison.â She took a long sip. âNot a word, Lauren!â she warned.
âWhat did I say? I didnât say a thing.â
âNo, but I can hear you thinking.â
âWell, as long as Iâm going to get in trouble for thinking it, I might as well say it. He really gets under your skin.â
âYou see what I have to deal with. The man has no couth.â
Kurt walked over to get some lemonade. âNateâs a fun guy.â
âIn a Penthouse kind of way,â Alicia scoffed.
âItâs obvious he likes you, Alicia. Why else would he take the time to bother you?â
âYou should see the way he looks at her when she turns her back,â Harrison interjected.
âIâve seen it, too, Harrison,â Lauren agreed.
âWhat kind of conversation is this to have in front of my child?â
âIâm not a kid, Mom. Besides, I think he likes you, too.â
âDonât be silly. Nathaniel Becker has his hands full with nubile
