replied.
âI know I wasnât dreaming, because I havenât gone to sleep yet,â Rex explained.
âMaybe it was a noise from the storm,â Woody said.
âThe storm is over,â said Rex.
âYouâre going to make me get up, arenât you?â asked Woody.
âIf it wouldnât be too much trouble,â Rex answered.
âAll right,â said Woody. âLetâs go have a look under the bed. Youâll see thereâs nothing to worry about.â
When they reached the side of the bed, Woody lifted the bedspread. âItâs too dark to see anything under there,â he said. âBut everything seems okay to me.â
GRRRRRR!
âGood job, Rex,â Woody added. âIf there was anything around here, Iâm sure you just scared it off.â
âThat wasnât me,â Rex said, his voice shaky.
âIt wasnât?â asked Woody.
Something went BUMP underneath the bed.
âLooks like you did hear something, after all,â Woody admitted. He was starting to feel a little nervous, too. âLetâs go get Buzz before we do any more investigating.â
âThis had better be an emergency,â Buzz declared when Woody woke him.
âI think we have an intruder,â Woody whispered.
âWhatâs going on?â asked Hamm.
âItâs nothing to worry about,â said Woody as calmly as he could. âThere appears to be somethingâor someoneâunder Andyâs bed.â
At that moment, a rumbling came from under the bed.
âIt sounds hungry!â Rex wailed and then fainted in fright.
The toys crept out of their places in drawers, behind furniture,
and in the toy box. They gathered in the center of the room while Woody woke Rex.
Buzz strode confidently up to the bed. âThis is Buzz Lightyear, space ranger. You are in violation of Intergalactic Code 36920-Q, which clearly prohibits concealing oneself under another life-formâs sleeping unit without prior clearance. Itâs bad manners. Not to mention creepy. Reveal yourself.â
The only response was a high-pitched whine.
âVery well, then,â Buzz replied. âYou leave me no choice but to take you captive.â
Buzz began to crawl under the bed. Suddenly, his space wings shot out and caught on the bedspread.
âI need some help here,â Buzz called out. He wriggled around but he couldnât free himself.
âOh, no!â cried Rex, panicking. âItâs got Buzz!â
âCome on, men! Weâre going in!â cried Sarge. He and the
Green Army Men rushed under the bed. They freed Buzz and pulled him back out.
âThereâs something under there,â Buzz replied. âAnd it was definitely moving.â
âWeâll take over from here,â Sarge announced. âMen, weâre going to execute a sneak attack and surround the enemy. You know what to do. Now go, go, go!â
The soldiers split into groups and stormed under the bed.
âHalt!â boomed Sargeâs voice. âItâs one of our own! Switch to rescue-mission protocol!â
The other toys all looked at each other. âWhatâs going on?â called Woody. âWho is it?â
But there was no answer. All the toys heard was the soldiers moving around under the bed.
âPush, men! Push!â commanded Sarge. âNow, one . . . two . . .
three . . . heave-ho!â
Suddenly, RC Car shot out into the room.
âWhat was he doing under there?â asked Woody.
âHis batteries are nearly out of juice,â Sarge reported. âHe just
sat there revving his engine, spinning his wheels, and going nowhere.â
âI knew there had to be a reasonable explanation,â said Rex.
Woody smiled and patted his friend on the back. âYouâre right, buddy,â he said.
Meanwhile, Buzz had removed RCâs battery door.
âThe supply truckâs coming,â Sarge
