saved a lot for her.
“ Everything,
Jada,” he told her. “I would have saved it all for you if
I could.”
They
took a hot shower and made love under the jets one more time. It was
a little bit difficult standing up, so Jada straddled him in the
shower, holding onto his thighs with her legs as he stayed inside
her. He’d never done it that way before and she’d only
tried it one time. It wasn’t an easy position to hold, but he
managed and kissed her deeply while they both climaxed at the same
time. She dried off and waited for him to change the sheets on the
bed. When she came out of the shower and into the bedroom, he was
under the sheets waiting for her.
“ White
satin?” she asked him as she slid under them to meet him.
“ I’ve
been saving these for a special occasion,” he told her. “I
think tonight fits the requirement.”
David
embraced her and kissed Jada deeply. He reached one hand over to the
night stand and turned off the lights. It was dark, but some
moonlight filtered into David’s bedroom. He wished he had a
mirrored ceiling so he could see her lying with him. He felt her body
next to him. There was only one thing which remained to make this
evening perfect: he had to tell her. Damn the consequences.
“ Jada,”
he said to her. “Are you still awake?”
“ Yes
I am,” he heard her say in the darkness.
“ I
need to tell you something,” he said again.
“ What,
David?” she asked. Jada was enjoying the feel of David on her
face. She had her head resting on his chest.
“ Jada,”
he said, trying to hold the tears back. “I have never said this
before to any other woman.”
She
waited in the silence of his room. What was he going to say? Would it
ruin the romantic mood of this evening?
“ I
love you, Jada,” he told her. “I fell in love with you
the day I laid eyes on you. I fell harder in love when I watched you
play Go. There isn’t a thing about you I don’t love. And
I worry this is a dream and I’ll wake and find you gone.”
“ David,”
she said, touching his lips with her fingertips. “I didn’t
think you could ever top what you said to me this evening when you
asked me to come home with you. But you have just done that. I love
you too, David. I regretted leaving you behind in Ohio and never
should have done that. But I realize we have a chance to start over.
I love you too. There, I’ve said it.”
David
went to sleep that night the happiest man in the known universe. If
anyone had told him there could be a better day coming, he would have
refused to believe them. But there would be.
Chapter 6
When
David woke the next morning, Jada was gone. He dropped his head back
on the pillow and forced himself to look at the depression where her
body had lay next to his to believe she had really been there. He
sighed and told himself it was too good to be true and he’d
better get back on with his life. He just knew the note explaining
everything and how much fun she had had would be in the kitchen which
would go on to leave a “two ships passing in the night”
message and do please call her someday when you have the time.
He
managed to get out of bed and looked for his bathrobe. It wasn’t
in the closet. Where had he left it? Was he starting to get forgetful
even at this early stage in life?
“ Are
you looking for this?” Jada called to him from the door to the
bedroom. He turned and saw her wearing his robe. It was way too big
on her and she was swallowed up inside the material. She looked
beautiful in the morning, the way he knew she would. Jada carried two
cups of coffee with her and sat them down on the nightstand. She let
the robe fall to the floor and returned to her side of the bed,
looking up at him with the bedroom eyes he remembered from last
night.
“ I
decided to let you sleep,” she said. “So I found some
coffee in the closet and made it for the both of us. I gave you some
extra cream.”
David
was back in the bed and on top of her in
