light of this information, thank you for coming in person, Kyrie
Konstantinos. Nothing would have been possible without your generosity.â Stavros
was
a generous man. Andrea had firsthand knowledge. âWeâre honored that you would allow our tours to come on your property.â
âIt has been my pleasure.â
Sakis stood and shook his hand. âThe arrangement worked well for everyone.â
âPerhaps it will still work. Good luck.â
But Stavrosâs father hadnât approved, not according to his mother. With Andreaâs heart racing now that this meeting was over, she got to her feet. It was imperative she get away from Stavros. âHave a good weekend, Sakis.â
âYou too. See you on Monday.â
âIâll be here.â
She left the office first, hoping to lose Stavros by going down in the elevator. But when she found she had to wait for it, she opted for the stairs.
Stavros caught up to her at the landing, not the least winded. âWhereâs the fire,
despinis
?â
Andrea darted him a glance. âI have a bus to catch.â She knew she was behaving like an idiot, but she was afraid of her feelings for him.
âYou donât own a car?â
âI donât need one in town. When Dad comes home, I use his.â She kept going until she came out into the foyer.
âIâll drive you home.â
âI appreciate the offer, but it isnât necessary.â
âIâm afraid itâs of vital importance to me.â
Something in his tone made her realize he wasnât toying with her. She stopped walking and looked at him. âThat sounded serious.â
âAt last Iâve gotten through to you. Do you have plans for this evening?â
Andrea could lie, but was resigned that he would see through it. âNo.â
âYou do now. The limo is waiting out in front. Iâll run you home so you can change into something comfortable and pack an overnight bag. Bring a bathing suit. I want to spend the weekend with you. Surely that couldnât come as a surpriseâor am I wrong and you have no interest in me?â
That meant two nights alone with him. Her body started to tremble. âI think youâre an exceptional man.â
He studied her through veiled eyes. âYet you donât trust me?â
âThatâs not the point.â
Iâm the one I donât trust.
âThen thereâs no problem, is there?â
She lifted her head. âIf Sakis hadnât asked you to come to his office, this wouldnât be happening.â
âContrary to what you believe, I would have gotten hold of you earlier in the week. But certain business matters prevented me from doing what I wanted to do. I purposely arranged this meeting with your boss at the end of your work week so we could be together.â
Oh, Stavros,
she moaned inwardly. âIâm not sure this is a good idea.â
âMy motherâs interruption upset you, but she wonât do it again.â
âThis doesnât have anything to do with your mother. Iâm just not ready to get involved with another man.â
âYouâre still mourning Ferrante, arenât you?â
âYes. I may not be actively grieving for him, but I have a full plate with my work and canât handle anything else.â
âUp until today youâve been honest with me. Why canât you be truthful now?â
âBecause I donât want to get hurt again!â she blurted in exasperation.
âI donât plan to hurt you,â he said in that velvety voice she couldnât ignore.
âMother died. Ferrante died.â
âI donât plan on doing that anytime soon,â came the wry reply. âWhat happened to the girl who takes risks traveling around to third-world countries and was willing to spend the night in a forest with a near stranger? Where did that girl go?â
âYou know what I
