university to enjoy, but a new football stadium, as well,â Grandfather Alden continued. âUsing the money that would have been used to tear down the old library and build something else in its place, a new home for the Goldwin Bears football team can be built. It will still have a large video screen, but will also have comfortable seats, a well-groomed field, and facilities that are modern and well-keptâ¦â
âAnd what does that mean?â asked Benny.
âIt means that the new stadiumâs steps wonât be crumbly and that the plumbing wonât leak,â said Jessie.
âThis new sports arena shall be called Woods Stadium,â Grandfather Alden said, âin honor of my good friend, our legendary Coach Woods.â
The crowd applauded again, cheering for the coach, who looked very happy and quite shocked at the kind news.
âAnd with that,â said Grandfather, âletâs all head over and cheer for our Goldwin Bears football team as they try to win the big game!â
The crowd cheered its loudest, and then the people started to walk across campus to Goldwin Coliseum.
Before the first of their remaining suspects could leave, the Alden children stopped Coach Woods.
âGood luck in the big game,â said Henry.
âAnd good job on not being one of our suspects anymore,â said Benny.
Coach Woods looked puzzled.
âI think what Benny meant is congratulations on the new stadium,â said Jessie.
âItâs going to be named after you!â said Violet.
âDid you come up with any big plays for the big game?â asked Benny.
âYou will just have to come see for yourself,â said Coach Woods. He thanked the children for their kind words, and then jogged to catch up with the players on his team.
The Alden children had now crossed three suspects off of their listâneither Coach Woods, Miss Hollenberg, or Annabel was behind the gargoyle mystery. But their final suspect hadnât attended the ceremony.
âCome on, guys,â Henry said, âwe have a stop to make before we go to the game.â
The children then paid a visit to Goldwin Gyros. The restaurant was empty, but the sound of pots and pans clattering came from the kitchen in back.
âHello, children.â Izzy said from the kitchen, sweat pouring from his bald head as he stood over the stove. âHow are you this morning? I hope you havenât seen any gargoyles, other than the ones on the library.â
âThatâs the thing,â said Henry, âwe did see a gargoyle last night. We saw it in the bushes outside of Harper Hall.â
âThatâs ridiculous,â said Izzy. âGargoyles are just statues made of stone.â
âUnless theyâre made out of papier-mâché,â said a voice from behind the Alden children.
It was Annabel! Dressed in her black âRavenâ clothes, but without her makeup or black wig. The Aldensâ friend was followed by her cameraman.
âHello, my online friends and fans,â she said, âthis is Annabel coming to you live from Goldwin Universityâs favorite eateryâbesides the Bruin Beanery, of courseâGoldwin Gyros. Today I have the breaking story of the Grinning Gargoyles mystery, and the four young detectives who solved it.â
With that, Annabel dropped the papier-mâché gargoyle the children had found the night before onto one of Izzyâs kitchen counters.
âI guess I left something behind, didnât I?â said Izzy. âI am usually very good picking up after myself.â
Jessie, who was also good about picking up after herself and her siblings, nodded. âWe know that you are the person who has been scaring everyone with the legend of the grinning gargoyles,â she said.
âYou seemed so nice,â said Benny, âand you made the best Gargoyle Gyro. So why were you scaring people?â
âI did it because of the
