hiding place and protection from the debris.  This went on for a while as the blades slowed down.
I heard the lock on the door click open, then the slide of metal against metal.  “Two Silvers…”
The Sphinx looked over and whispered, “Werewolves?”
“Yeah, male and female.”  Their feet hit the ground.  Hopefully the weird scents from the island would mask ours from them.  I wasn’t about to come out; just because they were wolves didn’t make them friends.
A third set of feet hit the ground.  I couldn’t see who it was, but he stretched out and gave a very disdainful sound.  Then I heard his voice.  “Jonathan owes me big time for sending me back here.”  Pan.
I looked over at the Sphinx who motioned to stay put.  I wasn’t thrilled with the idea, but I kept my ears open to listen in.  “My former home’s not far from here.  We make camp there tonight and tomorrow we start scouring the island.  If he says the gem is here, then it’s here.”
“You have yet to tell us what is so special about this gem.  After what happened to our clan…”
“Come now Skylar, I made you a promise didn’t I?”
The male’s voice was smooth.  He didn’t sound all that old, but by his scent I would’ve guessed him to be an alpha.  The female was more soft spoken, yet stern.  She too carried a rather powerful scent, probably the Alpha’s mate.  “Just do what he asks.”
I heard someone spit on the ground.  “Very well Caroline.  However Pan,” there was more of the growl I expected from someone like him, “before we leave this island, we will have our payment in blood.”
Pan’s tone never wavered.  “You werewolves are too much.  Come, the nights on this island are murder.”  He almost sounded happy about that.
With that, the three of them left the scene.  As soon as they were gone for certain, I got up and ran over to the helicopter.  Could I be so lucky?
    “Victor, what are you doing?”
“Looking for a way off this island after Oberon’s dead, but that bastard took the key.”
She started laughing.  “Oh Victor, you are adorable.  Did you forget that I brought you here?  Do you not think I can get you back home safely?”
Hmph, just like with Liz before her, I hated it when they were right.

Interlude I

“I am glad you two are with me and not that insufferable Marquis Lemoyne.”
The married couple, Rachael and Chris Swertfeger, were with me as we began our search of Jonathan’s home in London.  The council had split into two groups and I was feeling immensely sorry for Anders and Kai.  They pulled the short straw as they say and were partnered with Lemoyne.  Suffice to say, he was still on his witch hunt to prove Roderick’s involvement.
The three of us were currently in the dungeon.  It was cold, damp, and reeked of dried blood.  Rachael was taking in the scene with her keen eye.  “According to our notes, this is where Jonathan killed one of Pan’s followers and framed a newly formed vampire.  I do not see any evidence to the contrary from what Roderick told us.”
“Because my dear,” Chris walked over to her, looking into the cell, “Roderick was not lying to us.  Marquis Lemoyne is wasting our time in investigating claims that have been solved.  We need to discover more about what his plans are.”
“I agree Chris.  This is a colossal waste of time, yet important if we wish to prove without a shadow of a doubt Roderick had no involvement.”
Feet hit the hard, stone steps behind us.  Entering the dungeon was a young girl with red hair that had black streaks in it.  She looked terrified, but that did not stop her from approaching.  Her accent was lower class British, but she presented herself well.  “I might be able to help you out.”
I walked up to her; she was obviously a vampire and a fairly new one at that.  “I am Cristof Rollins.  Who do we have the pleasure of being acquainted with?”
    “My name is
