at home! What were you thinking? You didn’t marry Superman!”
“Too bad! I should have married anyone but you!”
Dr. Lachele stood staring at them for a moment. “Don’t even try to fool me. I saw her kiss you just a second ago, and everyone heard you sing to each other last night. I heard you were second only to Kaya and Bridget singing I Got You Babe .”
“Those two are insane,” Tony said, shaking his head. “When Jenni told me that’s what she thought they’d sing, I was sure she had to be joking. That song is not meant for twin sisters to sing to each other, loudly and off-key!”
“Face it,” Jenni said, shaking her head, “nothing is meant for those two to sing to each other. They’re the worst singers on the face of the earth, and they need to stop inflicting their special torture on the world around them.”
“Talking about us?” Kaya asked from behind her. “It’s a good thing I talked Bridget out of stealing shrimp forks from the dining room, because she’d totally be stabbing you with one right now. I thought you were our friend!”
Jenni hugged Kaya. “I am your friend, but my ears are still bleeding a little after I got you Babe .”
Bridget smiled, brushing her long brown hair out of her face. “We did rock it, didn’t we?”
Kaya rolled her eyes at her sister. “I rocked Sonny’s part. You singing Cher’s part left a lot of room for improvement. I told you we should have practiced in our room first!”
“Practice?” Bridget asked indignantly. “Why would we practice? We’re born singers. Mom should have had us on stage when we were little girls.”
“She would have, but she was always embarrassed of the way we behaved in public. I still don’t get it.” Kaya shrugged.
Jenni looked at Tony. “Don’t worry. Kaya lives in Arlington, and Bridget lives in Denton. We’ll very rarely see them both at the same time.”
“That’s probably for the best,” Tony said.
Kaya flew at Tony, hugging him tightly. “You know you love us. Just be good to Jenni. We won’t have a problem removing your precious parts and feeding them to you, otherwise.”
Tony blinked a couple of times, before slowly nodding. “I won’t hurt her.”
Bridget hugged Tony as well. “We’ll see you soon. Don’t be a stranger!”
Jenni turned to Dr. Lachele and hugged her close. “Thanks for all your hard work and for doing it for the cruise. I appreciate all you’ve done for me.”
“Just be happy!” Dr. Lachele turned on Kaya and yelled “Boobie bump!” at the top of her lungs and launched herself at the girl.
Kaya laughed, spreading her arms and “boobie bumped” with the crazy matchmaker. “I am going to write a book about you if it’s the last thing I do, Lachele Simpson. You are an amazing woman!”
Dr. Lachele laughed. “Me? Amazing? You’re right. Say more!”
They all laughed, and Jenni pointed as a shuttle pulled up. “Love you guys, but we have to go.”
“Stay in touch!” Kaya shouted as Sam helped Tony lug all the suitcases to the back while Jenni got onto the shuttle, saving a spot for her new husband. As she waited for him, she thought about how it would be to return to reality. It was all good to be have a nice vacation together, but real life? She hoped they could handle it.
Forty minutes later, they were in his car and headed north on I-35 toward Dallas. She leaned her cheek on the headrest of the passenger seat, watching him as he drove. “We have to stop at Buc-ees.”
He sighed. “What do you get at Buc-ees?” He knew of the huge gas station, but he’d never actually been to one.
“They have the best car trip snacks ever!” The store was practically a Texas road trip institution, and she refused to pass one without stopping.
“All right. We’ll stop at Buc-ees.” Tony was sure it would slow them down, but they had all day to get home. He actually wasn’t expected back at work until Tuesday morning, and it was only Saturday. “When do you
