walked up to them and scowled. “Are you stalking my mom?” “Should I be? She is pretty.” Trevor grinned. “We’re in different rows on the plane right?” Mina’s eyes narrowed. “I thought, I’d sit on your Mom’s lap all the way back to Indy. And then when we get there, she can ride on my lap in the truck.” He put his arm around Arianna. “I’ll kiss her a lot too and do everything I can to make sure everyone knows you’re with us.” “Mom!” “Stop teasing her.” Trevor bumped Arianna’s shoulder. “Who said I was teasing?” Arianna chuckled. “Please say you’re not going to marry this guy?” Mina rolled her eyes. “I was thinking tomorrow, what do you think, Trevor?” He shrugged. “I could do tomorrow, but it has to be after noon, because it’s hard to get up in the morning.” Mina stalked toward the door. “Did I do that right?” Trevor winked at Arianna. “I think you did a fine job.” Arianna trailed her daughter out of the hall. Trevor held the door for them. “Did you want to sit between us in the front seat on the way to the airport?” “You are so not funny.” Mina sneered. Arianna bit her lip as they headed out into the parking lot. Trevor opened the door. Mina scrambled inside. Arianna climbed in the front seat. “Did you need anything else at your hotel?” Trevor closed the door behind him. “I put everything in the truck before I left.” Arianna looked across the console at Trevor. “What do you think about driving back to Indiana?” “We already have plane tickets. Nonrefundable, I may add.” Trevor raised an eyebrow. “Not that I care about the money.” “Oh come on, wouldn’t it be fun to be spontaneous and drive back home?” Arianna grinned. Her face brightened and her eyes twinkled. “It’s only a what twelve-hour drive? It’s Saturday, we don’t have to be home until tomorrow.” “I suppose we could.” “Please don’t tell me you’re serious?” Mina looked at both of them. “You’re going to make me spend twelve hours in a car with the two of you?” “The idea is appealing to me more and more.” Trevor smiled. “So we can?” Arianna pleaded. “All right, we’ll drive.” Mina sulked, pressing her lips together. “Who knew a teenager would be disappointed about a road trip.” “A road trip with your mother and her annoying boyfriend is not what any teenager wants to do.” “You’ll get used to me.” Trevor chuckled. “Do I have too?” Mina turned to look out the window. ***** Arianna leaned her head back against the seat. She glanced at the clock. Two-twenty-two. Her eyes drifted closed. How Trevor was managing to stay awake was beyond her. Trevor looked over at her and smiled. “You can sleep. At some point, I’m going to need you to take over and I will be sleeping then.” “Can we stop for something to eat? I’m starving.” Mina looked up from the tablet. “I’ll stop at the next exit and we can stretch our legs and grab something to eat.” Trevor nodded. He glanced in the backseat. “How often does she go over your minutes on that thing?” She laughed. “We have unlimited data. It was either that or keep paying overage charges.” She turned to Mina. “Read a book.” Mina turned the tablet around. “I am.” “Guess you can’t fault her for reading.” Trevor smiled. “I like reading on my tablet. A little lighter than holding a book in your hand.” “I love the feel of a book in my hand. The smell of the pages and the sound they make when you turn them. I was always in trouble for reading past my bedtime.” “I had the same issue.” Trevor nodded. “Too many books and not enough time to read them. I don’t know how many times Mom caught me reading in bed long after I should have been asleep.” “I’ve caught Mina a couple times already. Although, she tends to read on the tablet and that has to strain her eyes.” “I read real books too, Mom.
