her side. Quint stood with him. She blinked back tears. “Baby.” Sam caressed her face. “Sweetheart, the baby is fine. If there’s more damage or something else happened, we’ll get through it. I’ve got you and that’s all I need. You’re safe.” “I just wanted ice cream,” she murmured. “I know, baby.” He brushed her hair from her face. “Rest. We’ll get a statement from you later.” He rested his forehead on hers. “We’ll get through this. Promise. You’ve got me forever. We’ll catch the bastard who did this. I won’t let anyone hurt you.” She breathed in his scent—strong, masculine and pine. The rest of the world might be going to hell, but he was right. She had him and the protection in his arms. Life wouldn’t always be the best, but she had the best man for the job of loving her.
THE END
Thank you for reading Simply the Best , the genesis of Sam and Emma’s story. These two characters are ones I couldn’t get out of my head. Sam is so gruff but tender and Emma is the perfect foil for him. She loves with her heart wide open. When I finished writing Best I Ever Had , Sam and Emma had more to say. So when readers asked for a prequel, I did my best to deliver. I hope you enjoyed it.
If you’re new to the Wounded Hearts series, you can continue Sam and Emma’s saga in Best I Ever Had . Want to know how Quint factored into Sam and Emma’s relationship? Or maybe you wondered what happened after the shooting. The answers and a whole lot more are in Best I Ever Had .
The racing scene with Emma’s brother in Simply the Best was inspired by one of my trips to the races. I was given the opportunity to hang out in the pits with the drivers. Blaine is based on a couple of those drivers. I got to see how the cars were kept between races, what was added and dismantled, and just how much work goes into the vehicles. There are also lots of tires in the pits! I never imaged there would be that many tires. If you’re interested in learning more about Blaine’s story, then check out Saturday Night Special .
Thanks again for reading Simply the Best !
