Sloan with a woman I assumed was their mother. It looked like it had been
taken just a couple of years ago. I didn’t know much about their mother, just
that she had died three years ago in a car accident.
Fixing my gaze on the girls I was
amazed at how different they were, even though they are identical twins. Sloan
had her short pixie hair that she was forever changing the colour of, and all
her piercings and tattoos. It’s just who Sloan was. Even her clothes and
make-up screamed ‘don’t screw with me’. She had the ‘I don’t give a fuck’
attitude and she wore it like a second skin.
But Stella, Stella was a whole
different ball game. With her silky smooth long black hair, lightly tanned
skin, and minimal make-up she was just pure. She was so timid, but now that I
knew about her past I understood why she was like this. I wanted to help her.
Sloan had told me Stella used to have ‘Spunk’. I wanted to meet that girl.
I closed my eyes contented with
the knowledge that my presence here was bringing her peace.

    Sloan
It was 9am and I was standing on
Bray’s front porch with two cup of coffee id picked up on my way over. I had a
feeling he’d want to talk about last night. I hoped Stella had told him our
secret.
My foot started tapping, what the
hell was taking him so long to answer the door? I pulled my phone out of my
pocked to call him. Waiting… waiting… waiting… and finally he answers!
    “What!”
“Geez its 9am Bray, get your ass
out of bed and let me inside.”
    “I’m not at home Sloan.”
    “Where are you? I brought
coffee.”
    “I’m still at Stella’s.”
What did he just say? No freaking
way! Stella still held her V-Card after what that asshole had done to her she
was too scared of men to go near them again. There’s no way she would have put
out already.
“You don’t have to tell me where
you are Bray, but you don’t need to lie to me about being at Stella’s.”
“I’m not lying; she was scared to
be alone last night. She asked me to stay, so I did.”
“She told you, didn’t she? She
told you what happened to her when we were eighteen.”
“Yea, she did. I’m not going to
lie Sloan, it freaked me the fuck out. I was seeing red the whole time she
spoke. But then she told me that he’s dead. You did that, didn’t you Sloan?”
I didn’t have any secrets, apart
from this one. I’d been friends with Bray for almost six years, he was a good
guy, and I knew I could trust him with this.
“I’m not going to talk about it
okay, all I will say is I took care of it, I did what needed to be done and I
don’t regret it.”
I heard him let out a deep breath
on the other end of the line.
    “Thank you.”
That’s not what I was expecting
to hear.
    “Why are you thanking me?”
“Because if you hadn’t taken care
of it; I would have. I think I’m falling in love with your sister and the
thought of that fucker still being out there, I wouldn’t have been able to deal
with it. I would have hunted him down and gone all Texas Chainsaw Massacre on
his ass and ended up in jail for a real long time. So, thank you.”
I had to stop myself from doing
my happy dance on Bray’s porch for the whole street to see. He was falling in
love with Stella. I couldn’t be happier. I wasn’t worried about the Texas
Chainsaw Massacre thing because there was no need for him to go there, so it
was a non-issue for me.
“I didn’t do it for anyone but
Stella. You don’t need to thank me. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Remember
that Bray, don’t fuck this up. Hurt her, and your ass is mine. Understand?”
    “I’d never hurt her, not
intentionally. But Sloan, I haven’t done this before, relationships and me, we
don’t mix. I’m willing to try for Stella though. I’ll do anything for that
girl.”
“I know you will. You wouldn’t
want to have your ass kicked by a girl.”
“Aw shit, I gota go Sloan.”
With that the line went dead. I
didn’t care. I’d heard all
