rank, her hackles would have been raised and she would have been circling him for a fight.
Jake sighed, leaning back in his chair and raising his hands helplessly. “I’m sorry Sasha, but there’s no other way. Our pack is weak, especially with the regions’ other packs moving in closer; we need to increase our numbers.
“Then why don’t you mate?” Sasha snapped.
“Sasha,” Jake said reproachfully, clenched fist banging on the table and making her jump. “You are well aware that I’m working on it; this is all we can do for now.”
Sasha bent her head down submissively, hating that she was being reprimanded but hating even more that she hurt her Alpha. Jake was Alpha and had lost his mate several years back. Going through such a loss still grieved him tremendously.
It was hard to gain Sasha’s respect, but out of everyone, Alpha or otherwise, Jake had her utmost.
“Alright, I’m sorry, but I still don’t understand why it has to be me. Mate some of the Omegas, or the Gammas, but not me.”
“We will,” Jake sighed, standing and walking towards the window of the pack home, staring out at the woods behind their cabin wistfully. Sasha could tell that he’d like to be doing anything but this. “But they will be less restless if they see us doing it. I’m courting Bryan, and I have thoroughly vetted your arranged mate; I think he will be a good match.”
Sasha snorted, “If I have to take orders from anyone other than my Alpha, I’d rather I got to choose.”
“Yes, I took that into account,” Jake said, arms bulging as he repeatedly clenched and released his fists. “I did a lot of follow up on his character. He has a strong personality, almost as strong as yours; I think you’ll be able to handle him.”
“Is he a stick?” Sasha asked. She was what could be considered a curvy woman. She had an ample bust, a thick waist, and curves in all the right places, if she did say so herself. She had long brown hair with luscious curls and full lips always perfectly painted in a scarlet red. And, with her equally full personality, she could be a lot to handle. She had no time for men she could push over with a feather.
Jake chuckled. “He’s bigger than me,” he said, flexing his relatively large bicep for effect.
Sasha pursed her lips, attempting to determine whether or not that was a good thing. She didn’t want a stick, but she didn’t know if she could quite handle someone with a professional body-builder’s physique. There came a point, somewhere around when your muscles have their own muscles, that you were too built.
“Just give him a chance. Please. For me?”
She shook her head, still in disbelief at the whole situation. “How long do we have until this whole joining of mates ceremony is supposed to take place?”
“Two weeks,” Jake sighed, “he’s arriving tomorrow; I’ve arranged for you two to spend the time before the ceremony in a nice bed-and-breakfast an hour away. It’s all paid for, courtesy of me. It helps when you come from a line of Alphas who had no qualms about breaking laws that they saw to be irrelevant. It lead to the stock market crash but that was just a tiny hiccup. Don’t worry about any of the costs.”
Sasha grinned at Jake, an almost predatory smile. “Oh don’t worry. In fact, I think I’ll order a nice pricey bottle of champagne just for the occasion.”
Jake rolled his eyes, knowing that Sasha would do it too. “Alright, do what you will, get it out of your system, just as long as you make it work.”
Sasha smirked. “I’ll give it a shot.”
    -x-x-x-
Sasha waited on the front porch of the pack house, wanting to get this whole thing over with. She would acquiesce to her Alpha’s request, but she had no intention of going easy on this potential mate of hers. If it wouldn’t work, it wouldn’t work, and she had no intention of simply forcing it to work. If this guy couldn’t handle her, she would just have to let Jake know that he’d
