they did fuck. The bad news is we didn’t get it on tape. I expect we will tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” Carron couldn’t believe his ears. “That’s if we can get him to do it again! Yesterday we basically ambushed him, but that was to show him exactly how talented my Dolls are. Today he was meant to be all hot-and-bothered and eager to get it on with Ginger. Today was meant to seal the deal with a sex tape that would get him fired and off our backs. Do you really think he’ll fall for Ginger a third time?”
    “Why not? She’s good.”
“ Why not?” Carron could feel a blood vessel pounding along the side of his forehead. “Because he’s not an idiot, that’s why not! Unlike some people who think he might be. He’ll figure out what we’re trying to do.”
Veraine smiled tightly. “I’ve been working to build a certain level of trust with agent Wyatt. I’ve assured him there are no cameras in my lab. And despite the fact he intended to resist Ginger today, he eventually did fuck her. I believe we can get him to do it again tomorrow. We only need to record him on camera once for Theus to have reason to can his ass.”
Carron shook his head in disbelief. “What the hell kind of men do you think the premier of the High Council hires? Men with backbone . Frankly, I think we shot our wad today. We’ve lost our chance. He’ll never fall for it again.”
“And with all due respect, sir, I think we should give it one more day.”
Carron gave Veraine a disgusted look. “It’s a damn good thing you’re a computer programmer, Titus, because you’d make a lousy police agent. They live by a code of conduct.”
Veraine narrowed his eyes at the insult. “I have my own personal code of conduct, Mr. Carron. And you’d do well to remember exactly what a good programmer I am. Without me, your whole operation here would collapse.”
Carron went perfectly still. “Are you threatening me, Titus?”
“Not at all,” Veraine answered tightly. “I’m just reminding you how valuable I am. And how…powerless…you’d be without me.”
Despite the fact his vision clouded with a red rage, Carron kept his mouth shut because he knew Veraine was right. Carron did need him.
    But maybe not for long.

Chapter Six
    “Wake up, Wyatt. Wake up!”
Leith Wyatt sat straight up in bed, instantly on alert, arms raised in a defensive position. He scanned his room quickly, searching for the source of the warning, his every muscle tensed and ready for action.
Nothing seemed out of place. He paused to listen for any suspicious noise or movement.
“Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!”
Wyatt’s head whipped around to track the source of that frantic cry, and then he blew out a relieved breath.
It was the auto-alert. Obviously he’d overslept.
He shoved a hand through his night-disheveled hair, and glanced at the readout on the far bedroom wall. 0930.
The auto-alert was one of the most civilized of alarm clocks. At the designated time, a man or woman’s soft voice (depending on your preference) would coax you awake. It was a moment of calm in a turbulent world, but if the bed sensor didn’t register any movement, the alarm would gradually increase both in volume and in urgency until it received a response.
Hell, he must have been dead to the world for the dulcet tones of the ‘femme fatale’ setting to turn into this ‘screeching banshee’ mode.
    Wyatt blew out a breath.
    This was all Ginger’s fault.
He hadn’t slept well, taunted by erotic fantasies involving the Beautiful Doll. Having experienced two amazing orgasms in two very different positions, he wondered what else she could do. Hell, he wondered if there was anything she couldn’t do. Interesting sexual variations had kept his brain so busy he hadn’t been able to relax into sleep.
But it wasn’t only thoughts of sex which had kept him awake. It was also the things Ginger had said to him.
For instance, when he’d tried to resist oral sex, her response had
