kick your ass. Again.” Jayn gasped.
Wick gently placed his lips against hers. Every muscle in Jayn’s body tensed. Her brain seemed to shut down as the fairy she hated kissed her. The motions were sweet, romantic, and brought back memories of her first kiss with her high school boyfriend. Jayn glanced at his wings which fluttered behind his body and then at his beautiful eyes before she closed them. Wick’s lips parted hers and his tongue entered her mouth uninvited. He swiped at her tongue and their touch became more fluid. Jayn could hardly believe she was locking mouths with a man, a fairy. His hands were suddenly on her hips and he was pulling her toward him. His hard body pressed against her and she felt the evidence of his desire. The moment Wick’s cock pressed against her leg, her brain seemed to wake. Jayn pulled away, pushing him so their bodies stopped touching. The chamber was silent but for the waterfall and their panting lungs.
“Well, that was interesting,” Wick said with his cocky grin returning.
“Interesting?” Jayn balled her fists. “Don’t you ever do that again!”
“You were the one staring at my butt and you didn’t seem to be protesting when my tongue was in your mouth.”
Jayn punched him. Her fist landed square on his jaw and knocked his head sideways.
“You’re always hitting me!” he complained before grabbing her wrist and pulling her close. This kiss came out of nowhere. They seemed to be fighting with their mouths instead of their hands. Although his hands were busy. They roamed her back and slid down to cup her ass cheeks. Her half-hearted attempt to push him away only made her lose her balance and she leaned heavily into him. Jayn’s hand slithered into his green hair and tugged as their kiss turned into a frenzy of wet lips. Wick’s hard cock pressed against her and she lost her breath at the feel of his hardness. It was such a contrast to Annalise’s soft curves.
    Annalise.
Jayn pulled away and this time she took several steps back. She inhaled deeply and was startled by the sudden movement behind her. The dozing fireflies must have awakened. They were flying from their hidden perches and into the chamber. She watched them, trying like hell to concentrate on anything but the fairy behind her. That switch of thoughts was accomplished when she saw what the fireflies had been covering.
Bones, human bones were huddled in the corner of the chamber.

    Chapter Seven

“So, not everyone made it out of the leprechaun hole,” Jayn said as she walked toward the remains.
Wick walked in front of her.
    “What are you doing?”
    “Shielding you.”
Jayn lifted her brow. “I’ve seen dead bodies before.” She walked around Wick.
    “You have?”
“Of course. Dead bodies. Burned bodies. Bodies bloated from the water. Tortured bodies. Skeletons. I’ve even seen this one guy with his head cut off.” She stopped and glanced up at him. Horror registered on his face. “New York City can be a dangerous place.”
“Indeed.” Wick shook his head. “And you...catch the people who did this.”
“Yup. I’m kind of like a warrior but we just lock our criminal and lunatics up instead of putting them out of their misery.” Jayn knelt beside the bodies. There were two. From the bone sizes and the shape of the pelvic area, she estimated they were both men. Something had a shine to it in one corpse’s hand. She pried the bones apart and pulled free a pendant. The chain was rusty but the gold fairy hanging from it was still in pristine shape. “What’re the chances of a fairy pendent on this guy?” She bit her bottom lip.
    “Unlikely.”
Jayn pocketed the necklace. “There’s no indication they were killed from blunt force trauma. No broken bones and there’s no dried blood beneath. It would have stained the sand.” Jayn stood. “They probably died of hunger.” Wasn’t that a comforting thought?
    “So you’ve seen this before.”
    She glanced back at
