it had turned around for the better, but this time, this time it was different.
‘It’s still in the bowel; it could take a while before it attacks the vital organs…’
‘In which case I’m as good as dead.’
‘Rhyland I’m truly sorry. There are people who can talk to you help you through this.’
He sat down and gazed up at the wall, this wasn’t happening it couldn’t be happening.
    ‘Rhyland?’
‘I’m fine. Thank you for everything.’
‘Please stay in touch, when thi ngs get worse we can –’
‘I’ll be fine; I’ll take care of it.’
‘You don’t have to do this alone, there is help out there.’
‘I won’t be alone.’ He smiled. ‘I’ll be fine.’
He’d got home that day and made a load of calls. He spoke to solicitors and made plans. It was the hardest thing he had to do. But while he was in the midst of it all a thought came to him. He had one year, maybe less, it would give him time to do everything and anything. He put a plan in place and wrote down everything he wanted to do.
The first month he went away and spent time in the desert. He’d always wanted to but never made time. He spent less time in the office and more time doing the things he loved. He promised himself a maximum of three days a week in the office, the rest he handed over to staff.
He volunteered, he gave to charity and then in the second month he had the strangest idea. He wanted sex; he wanted lots and lots of sex without ever having to make a commitment. He called on his assistant Finn to help him. To source out all the bars and pubs and find him a girl who was willing to be his one and only call girl.
‘I’m dying at least let me have some fun. This way neither of us will get hurt.’
Night after night they trailed through pubs looking for the woman who would tickle his fancy. Many came and many went. Many were beautiful and sexy but there was always something missing. There was one pub he frequented and decided he would visit that one everyday for two weeks to see if the woman he was looking for would come through the door. Two weeks went by and no one caught his eye.
‘What exactly are you looking for sir?’ Finn had asked once. He couldn’t understand how he’d turned down so many women; so many were offering themselves to him.
    ‘I’ll know when I see her .’
They continued to visit pubs and clubs but no one he liked showed up.
‘It looks like I’ll never get my wish,’ he’d said one Friday evening.
‘Perhaps if you weren’t so choosy sir you’d be having all the sex you want.’
    ‘Who pays your salary Finn?’
    ‘You sir.’
‘Exactly. I want what I want. I will know when I see her. How about we go back to that pub, you know the one.’
‘The one you spent two weeks waiting for the girl who never showed.’
Rhyland eyed his assistant and his lips curled at the corners.
    ‘You know me so well.’
He’d done the right thing. The day he’d walked back into that pub he’d seen the woman he was looking for. She was working behind the bar. His instincts had been right, he’d found her.
‘We’re staying here for as long as it takes.’ He told Finn. ‘I think I’ve found the woman I’ve been looking for.’
Finn raised his eyebrows, was it possible after all these weeks.
    ‘How do you know sir?’
‘I just do.’ He kept a watchful eye on her until she’d finished her shift.
    ****
‘So you waited for me?’ she wiped the tears from her eyes.
‘I did and you want to know something?’
    She nodded.
‘I told myself I was looking for sex, for someone I could spend my cash on without the commitment. But then I saw you and I fell in love…but I just couldn’t allow myself to love, not with time ticking on my life.’
She chewed on her bottom lip as the tears drizzled down her face.
‘Please don’t be upset. I don’t want to upset you. This is a happy time.’ He squeezed her in his arms. ‘In a way I’m glad I finally found love. At least I will die
