feel about you.  I can’t deny the way you make me feel.  We can wait to get married for awhile, but I want you as mine, for always.”

“Yes.” Lexi whispered, her smile wide, her eyes glistening.

Seth hooted like a college frat boy and grabbed her up tight in his arms.

“Ah, my sweet.  You’ve made me so happy.  There is so much I want us to do together.  So many things I want to teach you and share with you.”

Lexi snuggled against his chest.  “Mmmm, I can’t wait.”

Together they laughed, cuddled, kissed, and whispered sweet nothings, drifting off in to a blissful sleep.

Epilogue

    "Hello?"

Silence over the phone line made Lacey wary.

    "Is anybody there?"

"Lacey?"  The voice barely audible, yet Lacey recognized it immediately.

    "LEXI?"

"Yeah.  Hey."  Lexi's voice sounded distant, as if she was in a tunnel.

"How are you?"  Lacey beamed.  She hadn't heard from Lexi in months...not since the incident at the Lounge.

    "I'm fine."

Lacey stared at the clock on the wall over her kitchen sink.   Words failed to come to her.   She desperately wanted to apologize; to beg her friend for forgiveness.  Yet, Lexi had been the one to call her, so Lacey held her tongue.

"Look, Lacey, I am sorry about the way things went."

"Oh gosh Lex.  It's all my fault.  I am so sorry.   I never meant to hurt you."

    "Thanks."

"Look it was my fault for listening to Dante.  He had the whole night planned and I thought it would turn out differently.  He led me to believe you wanted...well...what happened.  I didn't know until I saw the look on your face."

"Well, I guess he tricked us both then."  Lexi's voice was more confident now.  "Anyway, I just called because I wanted to mend things between us."

"Oh thank you, Lex, I am so glad."

"But, I can't say our friendship would ever be the same.   I can't forget what happened.  Yet, I don't want to hold on to the hurt and anger anymore."

"I understand.  Please forgive me, Lex."

"I do forgive you.  For now, I'd like to just work on moving forward in my life.  But, I can't do that if the past haunts me."

"I know."  Lacey felt her heart drop.  She had truly lost her best friend.  The hurt and embarrassment would fade, but their friendship would never be the same.

"Anyway, I just wanted to talk with you.  I'm getting married next summer and I'd like it if you could come."

"Married?  Oh my gosh, Lexi!  I am so happy for you, congrats!"

"Thanks.  Well I will send you an invitation."

"Can we still be friend, Lex?  I mean, I know it'll never be the way it was between us, but I don't want to lose you."

"I think so, Lace.  But, let's just take it a day at a time ok?"

"Ok.  Where are you, by the way?"

    "I moved to Tennessee."

    "Wow."

"Yeah.  I love it here though. Every day there's something new to enjoy.  I've always loved nature."

    "I remember."

"So how are you and Shawn?"

"Well, there were some bumps a few months back.  But, we've removed the major instigator from our lives and since then have gotten back on track."

    "Dante?"

    "Yep.  He's a sick fucker."

    Lexi let out a laugh.

    "Sorry, but he is."

    "Don't I know that?"

Both women laughed.  They spent hours on the phone catching up.  Even though their lives had taken a turn away from one another, they both realized that they could move forward and that in time, things would be okay again.  Maybe not the same as before, but with mistakes there are lessons to be learned. And, with lessons comes growth and understanding.  And with that...anything is possible.
