slow down.”
At the door to the hallway he
stopped. “I’m not gonna let that fucker threaten you.
Not here right under my nose.” The vicious look on his face matched his tone.
She took a deep breath and gently
disengaged her arm from his grip. “He’s lost it.”
“Francesca, he just threatened you
in a room full of people.” His eyes were filled with rage.
“I know.” She was trying to
rationalize what just happened and take in Remy’s reaction.
“Nowhere, Frankie. You will go
nowhere without me. We’ll deal when your security team gets here, but you are
with me from this point forward. Agreed?”
She didn’t like it. Not one bit. She
was going to have to call the office and Rico would send a team. Remy was right
though, a public threat was concerning. Blake was unpredictable, and now,
reckless.
“Frankie, are you with me?” His tone
had an edge. “You’re going to call for a team, right?”
“I heard you, and yes, I’ll make
that call.” A rush of tears formed behind her eyes. She looked down for a beat
and tried to gain control. “I hate it. I hate having a team around me.”
He pulled her into his arms. “Babe,
nothing can happen to you. Whatever it takes to keep you safe, we do it.” His
arms tightened around her.
She rested her forehead against his
chest. Remy cared and she liked it that he did, maybe too much. She heard more
footsteps approaching.
Emma’s voice broke them apart. “Are
you OK? That man, he threatened you.” Her eyes were huge. She pulled Francesca
into her arms for a hug. She appeared genuinely shaken.
“I’m fine. Thank you.” She said, but
nobody missed the tremor in her voice.
“Did you call your people? Jimmy
won’t like this at all.” Able dropped an arm around her shoulders. “You need to
call him before he hears it from someone else.”
“I’m going to call them as soon as I
get to a quiet place. Thank you all for your concern. Mr. Blake’s words were
troubling.” She wanted to appear calm and in control of her emotions.
Remy took her hand in his. “Let’s go
to my suite so you can make those calls.”
Chapter Six
She used Remy’s bedroom to make her
calls in private. Jimmy was unhappy, but thankful that she was safe. He asked
that Remy call his cell. Lucky Remy, he was going to be questioned, and then
cautioned by Jimmy O’Haire at his protective best.
She then called Rico, who answered
on the fourth ring.
“’Lo,” he mumbled.
“Hey Rico, it’s Francesca. I’m sorry
to have to wake you, but I need your help.” She let that sink in.
“What happened?” He was now wide
awake.
“Steven Blake lost his shit during
our panel and was escorted out by security.” When she had confirmed that Blake
was physically in attendance, Rico had pushed to send a team. She had held him
off, but now she had no choice.
“Did he touch you?” His voice had
gone ice cold.
“No. God Rico, no. I didn’t go near him. I’m not stupid. ” She told him angrily.
“I know that. I just don’t like the
idea that he was in the same room as you.”
She gripped her phone tightly. “He
did make some threats and I’m calling because I’m going to need a team.”
“What type of threats?” Rico’s anger
pulsed through the phone.
“Vague ones. He’s going to get me.”
She paused, trying to decide how much to tell. “Remy hustled me off of the
stage and he’s going to hang around until the team gets here.”
There was silence from Rico. “I’ll
put a team together and I’ll be on the next plane out. The others might have to
follow.”
“Rico, you don’t have to come.”
Shit, she needed him at the Red Rose.
“ Chica ,
it’s either me or Jimmy. You decide.” Damn him, he was right.
“Then I’ll see you later. Thanks,
Rico.” He was doing his job and she had to accept it.
“I’ll text you the details.”
“See you soon. I’ll work on getting
rooms.” She added that to her list.
“Frankie, have your Marine call
