off in the men's room?"
Travis shook his head, feeling oddly numb. Before he could think of what to do next, Juliana's father and uncle hove into view, planting themselves squarely in front of him. Just what he needed, he thought. They'd been coolly ignoring him for the most part until now. Apparently Juliana's exit scene had prodded them into staging a confrontation.
"What the hell do you think you're doing, Sawyer?" Roy Grant demanded. He glared hostilely at Travis through the lenses of his bifocals. "What did you say to my daughter to upset her that way?"
"Why don't you ask her? I'm the one wearing the guacamole," Travis muttered. Roy Grant hadn't changed much, he reflected briefly. The younger of the two Grant brothers by two years, he was still in good shape for his age. He'd always been the quieter, calmer one but he wasn't playing that role tonight.
"The real question," Tony Grant interrupted, his florid face turning red with anger, "is what are you doing here tonight, Sawyer? I know you. You've got something up your sleeve. Whatever it is, you'd better watch your step, mister. Roy and I are going to keep an eye on you."
"I'll bear that in mind." Travis wondered if his tie was salvageable. Then a sudden thought struck him, galvanizing him back into action. Juliana was in a mood to walk out of here tonight and effectively strand him thirty miles from his apartment. "Oh, hell. The car."
"If she's got the keys, she's probably long gone by now," David assured him cheerfully.
"I've got the keys." Travis shoved his hand into his pocket and found them. "But I don't know if she's one of those women who keeps a spare in her purse."
"She always did when I dated her," David remarked. "Like I said, she's usually one step ahead of a man. That's our Juliana. Gets on the nerves sometimes, doesn't it?"
"The car." At the thought of being left without transport, Travis launched himself toward the lobby doors.
"Now hold on just one damned minute," Roy Grant called after him.
Travis ignored the warning. He flew through the lobby doors, raced past a startled desk clerk and dashed outside to the resort's brightly lit entrance.
The roar of an angry sports car engine was already reverberating through the night air. Travis came to an abrupt halt in the drive and watched in furious dismay as Juliana's red coupe hurtled toward the main road.
"That blasted, redheaded witch." Travis stood with his hands bunched into fists on his hips and watched the coupe headlights disappear around a curve in the highway. "She did it. She went and left me here."
"The thing you have to keep in mind about Juliana," David said as he ambled casually over to stand beside Travis, "is that she tends to be a mite impulsive even under normal circumstances. The only thing she's ever really levelheaded about is business. On the other hand, she's generous to a fault.
Can't stand to see someone suffering. There's a chance she'll get ten miles, remember you don't have a ride home and come racing back to rescue you."
"Sure there's a chance of that happening. A fat chance."
David nodded. "You're probably right. She did look a little annoyed with you. Hey, but not to worry, mate." He clapped Travis familiarly on the shoulder. "I'll run you back to Jewel Harbor. No problem."
Travis cursed softly, fluently, and with great depth of feeling. The thought of accepting a friendly lift from the man he fully intended to ruin was enough to make him a little crazy. And on top of everything else. Kirkwood was Juliana's ex-fiancè—her golden god.

Travis wondered if Juliana had deliberately abandoned him just so he'd be faced with this bizarre social situation. He was certain the awkward irony of the whole thing would appeal to her warped sense of humor. The woman was a menace.
"Maybe one of your other guests is going to be returning to Jewel Harbor later this evening," Travis suggested tightly.
David frowned consideringly. "Can't think of anyone right off."
    "Maybe I
