just as
impressive in the moonlight.
    She grabbed the branch
and followed him up, clearing the razor wire and dropping neatly down the other
side.
    "My car is about
half a mile in that direction," she said, and he nodded, he seemed to be
getting stronger with every passing minute.
    "Let's go,"
he said.
    Keeping a wary eye out
for cars, they set out. Walking to one side of the road, as near to the wall as
possible, they moved quickly down the road.
    They had to duck down
once when a stream of black Range Rovers shot past them at speed through the
snow. Sara counted 12 vehicles, all, she assumed, heading for the main gate of
the castle. "Hopefully in the confusion it will be at least a few hours
before they realise that we are even gone," Sara said.
    She realised that if
they made it to the car, and could somehow get it out of the ditch, then they
should be safe.
    She had not been
carrying any id on her when she had been captured, having left her wallet in
the glove compartment. She had lost the keys along with her camera bag, they
had nothing to identify her on them either.
She had a spare set of
keys stored in a magnetic box under the drivers wheel arch, so if they got to
the car then they should be able to make a clean getaway.
If you can call a clean
getaway leaving a house full of dead people, demons and vampires behind you
that is.
    They heard a small
explosion behind them in the direction of the castle, this spurred them on to
move quicker.
    Ten minutes later they
rounded the corner and there was her car, still firmly wedged in the drainage
ditch.
    "You don’t make it
easy do you," Constantine smiled.
    Sara said,
"Sorry." Then she ran her hand under the arch of the wheel, the box
was still there. Thank you God, she thought. She slid it open and the key
dropped into her hand.
    "You get in, I'll
pull," Constantine said.
    Sara nodded and opened
the door and climbed into the driver’s seat. She was at an uncomfortable angle,
but she still managed to get the key in and start the engine.
    For the hundredth time
in her life she thanked the engineers in Gothenburg who built the reliable
vehicle as it started first time.
    Putting the car in
reverse, she wound down the window, "Whenever you're ready," she
shouted.
    Constantine stood at
the back of the car, in the ditch on the driver’s side, up to his knees in
snow. He put both hands under the rear bumper, grabbed the towing point and
lifted. The car shifted upwards and the tilt reduced significantly.
    Sara eased off on the
clutch and the back wheel span slightly. It gained some purchase but nowhere
near enough.
     Constantine lifted
higher and pushed harder, shifting the entire back of the car out of the ditch
and on to the road. Because of the angle the back wheels were now hanging above
the ground. Carefully Sara eased back on the clutch holding off on the
accelerator so the wheels didn't spin.
    Constantine made his
way around to the front of the car, braced his back against the wall and placed
one foot on the bumper. He caught Sara's eye nodded and shoved.
    The car shot backwards
straight out of the ditch onto the road. Sara steered it backwards then shifted
over to first gear and pulled forwards so Constantine could get in.
    To her surprise he was
grinning like an idiot when he opened the door and got in. "That was
fun," he said, the exertion having somehow restored some his strength.
    "Let’s go,"
Sara said.

    Sara lay with her head
on the pillow and drifted blissfully along. The soft sheets surrounded her
body, and the warm duvet moulded to her, comforting and reassuring.
    The sheets smelled
lovely and fresh, which mingled divinely with the scent of jasmine which
pervaded the whole room.
    She smiled, hearing the
shower in the en-suite running noisily. She imagined the water flowing down
Constantine’s hard body. For an idle minute she considered joining him in the
shower, then quickly decided against it.
    He needed some privacy
after the last few
